Volviendo a hace un año, cuando probé aquella Yamaha, sus puntos fuertes eran la agilidad, la estabilidad en los virajes y que era ligera al pilotar. Sus debilidades radicaban en la potencia, que oscilaba entre las 10.000 y 15.000rpm, un déficit en el motor en comparación con Honda y Ducati.

That opening round went down to an epic battle between Rossi and his greatest rival Max Biaggi, and we all know what happened next. Rossi shook the ground with that win, drawing all the attention and focus to himself and ensuring it stayed that way for the rest of the season, particularly at times when other riders would have been boosted by a bit of attention themselves. It is a deliberate tactic which Jerry Burgess and his crew used for a long time to great effect with Mick Doohan.

Je reprendrais le guidon de la M1 la semaine prochaine et j'ai hâte de voir à quel point elle a changé. Mais la plus grosse différence, ce fut tout simplement Valentino Rossi. J'avais dit qu'il ne pourrait pas remporter le titre cette année, mais il l'a fait, il a prouvé que j'avais tort et je pense qu'il s'est surpris lui-même. Ce fut une saison plaisante et il l'a bouclée de manière idéale, en arrachant la victoire à Phillip Island au dernier tour alors qu'il aurait pu se contenter de la deuxième place… mais ce n'est pas le genre de Vale.

Rossi fece tremare la terra con quella vittoria, accaparrandosi l´attenzione di tutti e facendo in modo di non perderla per il resto della stagione, specialmente quando gli altri piloti avevano bisogno di mettersi in mostra. So tratta di una tattica che Jerry Burgess e il suo staff avevano utilizzato durante molto tempo e con grandi risultati per Mick Doohan.

Voltando a um ano atrás, quando testei aquela Yamaha, os seus pontos fortes era o facto de leve para manejar e estável na abordagem das curvas. A sua fraqueza era a potência, em especial entre as 10 mil e as 15 mil rotações. Um deficit de potência quando compara com as Honda e as Ducati.
