Nel 1994, egli è stato nominato alla carica di segretario della direzione dell'UFEE e collaboratore personale del Segretario di Stato Franz Blankart. Dal 1996 al 2001, Henri Gétaz è stato responsabile, presso la SECO, dei negoziati internazionali relativi alle prestazioni di servizi, segnatamente nell'ambito del GATS/OMC.
