Der Ruf erinnert als Sprechgesang mit wenigen Tönen an den Gregorianischen Choral der römisch-katholischen Kirche. Im Druck erschien der Sarganserländer Vieh- und Hirtensegen erstmals im Jahre 1862. Als Notation wurde er 1867 und als Tonaufnahme 2006 veröffentlicht.

The Sarganserland alpine blessing is a prayer with which shepherds in the region between the Walensee and the Tamina valley appeal to God, Mary and the saints for protection against dangers during the alpine summer. By reciting the prayer, they commit all the living creatures on the alpine pastures as well as their honour and property to the care of a higher power. The alpine farmers learn the blessing as school children together with the Lord's Prayer, Ave Maria and the creed and usually recite it from the hilltops every day. The prayer takes the form of a recitative based on just a few notes, making it reminiscent of the Gregorian chant of the Roman Catholic church. The Sarganserland animal and shepherds' blessing first appeared in print in 1862, while the musical notation was published in 1867 and an audio recording in 2006.

La prière des alpages de Sargans est dite par des armaillis qui demandent à Dieu, à la vierge Marie et aux saints de protéger les alpages du danger pendant l’estivage. Les êtres vivants sur place, le corps et l’âme, les biens matériels sont ainsi placés sous la sauvegarde d’une autorité supérieure. Il s’agit d’une prière apprise dès l’enfance, en même temps que le Notre Père, le Je vous salue Marie et le Credo, et que les armaillis disent du haut de leur montagne. Elle rappelle ce chanter-parler propre au choral grégorien de l’église catholique. La première publication imprimée fut faite en 1862. La partition est parue en 1867 et un enregistrement en 2006.

La preghiera dell’Alpe della regione di Sargans è una preghiera dei pastori con la quale, durante l’estate sugli alpeggi, i malgari tra il Lago di Walen e la valle della Tamina invocano Dio, la Madonna e i Santi affinché li proteggano dai pericoli. Con questa preghiera vengono quindi affidati in custodia a un’entità superiore tutti gli esseri viventi di un determinato territorio alpino, il corpo, l’onore e i propri beni. Gli alpigiani hanno imparato la preghiera dell’Alpe a scuola insieme al Padre Nostro, all’Ave Maria e al Credo e hanno l’abitudine di recitarla ogni giorno dall'alpeggio a valle. Questa forma di richiamo, che si presenta come un canto parlato con una scala piuttosto ristretta di tonalità, ricorda il canto corale gregoriano della chiesa romano-cattolica. La preghiera del bestiame e dei pastori della regione di Sargans fa la sua prima comparsa in forma stampata nel 1862. È stata pubblicata come notazione nel 1867 e come registrazione sonora nel 2006.
