Après avoir effectué un vol qui l’a amené à 39’045 mètres d’altitude grâce à un ballon gonflé à l’hélium, il a réalisé un saut historique depuis la frontière de l’espace, exactement 65 ans après l’exploit de Chuck Yeager, devenu alors le premier homme à franchir le mur du son à bord d’un avion autopropulsé expérimental. Le parachutiste professionnel de 43 ans a également battu deux autres records du monde (saut en chute libre le plus élevé et vol en ballon habité le plus élevé), laissant celui de la chute libre la plus longue à son mentor, le colonel Joe Kittinger. Arborant à son poignet le tout nouveau chronographe El Primero Stratos Flyback Striking 10th, Felix Baumgartner a atteint la vitesse estimée de 1’342 km/h (vitesse qui doit toutefois encore être certifiée officiellement), avant d’atterrir sain et sauf en parachute dans le désert du Nouveau Mexique. Ce saut historique a duré 9 minutes et 3 secondes. Des millions de personnes à travers le monde ont assisté à son ascension, puis à son saut, diffusés en direct sur les chaînes de télévision et sur Internet. A un moment donné de sa chute libre, Baumgartner a donné l’impression de partir en rotation rapide, mais il a rapidement repris le contrôle avant d’ouvrir son parachute, sous les acclamations des membres de l’équipe au sol et les soupirs de soulagement des spectateurs.

Approximately 60 cases of biliary papillomatosis have been reported in the world literature, while only 6 cases have been reported to be treated with liver transplantation. This rare disease, which is characterized by relapsing episodes of obstructive jaundice and cholangitis that lead to secondary cirrhosis and death from sepsis or liver failure, it is also considered premalignant because of its frequent malignant transformation (25-50%). The authors present a case of a 43-year-old white man with papillomatosis of intra- and extrahepatic biliary tree who sought care for repeated episodes of obstructive jaundice and cholangitis. Until recently, patients suffering from both a psychotic disorder and a post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) were hardly ever treated for their ptsd. Many clinicians considered that the reliving of the trauma during treatment could increase the risk of psychotic decompensation. We describe a trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy that was used to treat a 43-year-old patient diagnosed with both schizoaffective disorder and comorbid ptsd. After five sessions the patient no longer experienced ptsd symptoms.

Taiwanese architect Arthur Huang took up and fine-tuned the original idea. The 43-year-old Harvard graduate developed a special production process involving a honeycomb structure that is especially suitable for use in residential and office buildings. The plastic is melted down and moulded into new air-filled shapes. The resulting material is translucent, insulating, unbreakable and flame-retardant. The bricks can be attached to one another like Lego. Thanks to the air between and inside the elements, Polli-Brick is an excellent insulation material. In Taiwan this is considered the construction material of the future and will soon be available in Europe.

Der aus Taiwan stammende Architekt Arthur Huang übernahm die Idee und verfeinerte sie: Der 43-jährige Harward-Absolvent entwickelte ein besonderes Verfahren und erfand eine Bienenwaben-Architektur, die sich besonders zum Bau von Wohn- und Arbeitsräumen eignet. Dabei lässt er den Plastikmüll zu neuen, mit Luft gefüllten Hohlformen gießen. Das Material ist lichtdurchlässig, dämmt gut, ist bruchsicher, schwer entflammbar und lässt sich ineinander stecken. Durch die Luft in und zwischen den einzelnen Bauelementen erzielen die sogenannten Pollibricks hervorragende Dämmwerte. In Taiwan gelten sie als Baustoff der Zukunft und in Europa stehen sie kurz vor der Einführung.
