Cafwyd trigolion lleol ac aelodau o Ymddiriedolaeth Cadwraeth Mwynfeydd Cymru gyfle unigryw i ymweld a lleoliadau anghysbell i ymwneud â threftadaeth mwyngloddio gogledd Ceredigion. Roedd yn siawns i rannu gwybodaeth a storiau am destun sydd wedi siapio tirwedd yr ardal ers dros 4000 o flynyddoedd.
Local residents and visitors from the Welsh Mines Preservation Trust were recently given a unique opportunity to access remote sites relating to northern Ceredigion's mining heritage. It was an opportunity to share knowledge and stories about a subject that has shaped the landscape of the area for over 4000 years. Examples of wheel pits, adits and leat systems are very much a part of the landscape and provide a constant reminder of the industry that once was so important to the economy of the area.

Rheolir y prosiect gan Gyngor Sir Ceredigion ac fe'i arianwyd gan Lywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, rhaglen Amcan 1 Ewropeaidd a Chyngor Cefn Gwlad Cymru, yr ydym yn ddiolchgar iawn iddynt am eu cymorth.
The project was managed by Ceredigion County Council and funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, the European Objective 1 programme and the Countryside Council for Wales to whom we were grateful for their support.

. Wrth i'r mwyngloddwyr weithio drwy'r graig galed, roedd y rhan fwyaf o'r lefelau a agorwyd yn cynnal eu hunain ac nid oedd angen “coedyn pwll” (pit props) fel y ceid wrth gloddio am lo - oni bai pan fyddai lefel yn taro ar ddaear wael.
. As the miners worked through hard rock most of the levels being driven were self-supporting and did not require “pit props” as used in coal mining - except where a level hit bad ground.

Mae i Eglwys yr Hafod hanes cyfoethog, ac mae ganddi gysylltiadau cryf â diwydiant mwyngloddio'r ardal. Mae'n adnabyddus oherwydd beddrodau Thomas Johnes, yr Hafod, a'i ferch Mariamne yn ogystal â llawer o fwynwyr a fu'n gweithio ym mwyngloddiau Cwmystwyth – un o'r rhai enwocaf oedd James Raw, a ddaeth i'r ardal fel peiriannydd mwyngloddio.
Hafod Church has a wealth of history and has strong links with the mining industry of the area. It is famous for the grave of the former owner of the Hafod Estate, Thomas Johnes and his daughter Mariamne as well as many miners who worked in the mines of Cwmystwyth – one of the most well known being James Raw, who came to the area as a mining engineer and whose family still live and farm in the area today. From 1718 until the end of 2007, 2,389 people have been buried in the graveyard.

Eto eleni roedd hyn yn benwythnos llwyddianus wedi'i drefnu ar y cyd gyda Ysbryd y Mwynwyr ac Ymddiriedolaeth Cadwraeth Mwynfeydd Cymru. Cynhaliwyd y digwyddiad dros penwythnos y 3ydd a 4ydd o Fehefin gyda teihiau cerdded o amgylch gweithfeydd fforest Meheryn.
This was yet another successful heritage weekend jointly organised by Spirit of the Miners and the Welsh Mines Preservation Trust. The event was held over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of June with guided walks and talks around the mines of the Myheryn Forest. On Saturday the mines of Bodcoll and Mynach Vale were visited and in the evening, Prof. David Austin from the University of Wales Lampeter gave a presentation on the development of the Strata Florida Landscape project. Helen Palmer from the County Archives Office brought the history to life of Captain Boundy by tracing back through documentation, starting with his grave stone at Cwmsymlog chapel. On Sunday the group visited the mines of Nantsyddion and Nantycreuau.

Mae nifer o rywogaethau cennau, a ddisgrifir fel metallophytes, yn gallu tyfu ar greigiau, pridd a hen adeiladau cloddfeydd sy'n cynnwys llawer o fetelau trwm. Maent hyd yn oed yn amsugno'r metelau ond maent yn eu dal mewn cyfansoddion cymhleth yn gyflym lle nad ydynt yn achosi unrhyw berygl.
One group of fungi have developed a special beneficial relationship with algae to form lichens. A number of lichen species collectively described as metallophytes, are able to grow on rock, soil and old mine buildings rich in heavy metals. They even absorb the metals but quickly trap them in complex compounds where they cause no harm. Lichens colour the rocks on many mine sites and Ceredigion has some of the most interesting metallophyte lichens in western Europe.

In the programme for 2006 the project will undertake two closely-related exercises under the sub-heading Strata Florida Mines and Metals. The first is to extend the survey and excavation programme (June) into the area of ancient mines know to be associated with the Abbey at Bronyberllan. The research objective is to assess the potential of the remains for further research. It will serve as a volunteer and student training exercise and visits will be organised for schoolchildren and others in a scheme for presenting the processes and discoveries of archaeology in relation to ancient mining.

Roedd y Sistersiaid yn enwog am eu sgiliau yn echdynnu a phrosesu metalau, yn enwedig yn yr ardal hon, haearn, plwm ac arian. Defnyddiwyd a thoddwyd y mwynau mewn melinau a ffwrnesi ar raddfa ddiwydiannol, ac roeddent yn cael eu gyrru gan olwynion dwr, a darganfuwyd elfennau o hyn yn y gwaith gafodd ei wneud yn 2004-5.
The Cistercians were noted for their skill in the extraction and processing of metals, especially, in this area, iron, lead and silver. They crushed and smelted the ores in industrial-scale mills and furnaces, powered by water-wheels, elements of which have already been located in the work done in 2004-5. However, the processing of these metals and their related technologies goes back to the early Bronze Age and the programme is examining prehistoric remains in the area.
