  Smokefree Action Coalit...
Mae ASH Cymru’n aelod o’r Smokefree Action Coalition (SFAC). Mae’r SFAC yn grŵp mawr o sefydliadau o bob rhan o’r Deyrnas Unedig sydd wedi ymrwymo i hyrwyddo iechyd y cyhoedd. Daethant ynghyd i lobïo dros weithleoedd di-fwg ac yn awr maent wedi ymrwymo i leihau’r niwed a achosir gan dybaco’n fwy cyffredinol.
We are also members of the Smokefree Action Coalition (SFAC). The SFAC is a large group of organisations from across the UK who are committed to promoting public health. They came together to lobby for smokefree workplaces and are now committed to reducing the harm caused by tobacco more generally. Following a campaign by the SFAC the Westminster coalition government published its Tobacco Plan in March 2011 which set out a comprehensive strategy containing ambitions to reduce smoking prevalence to 18.5% or less by 2015.

Smoking rates are higher among people suffering from mental health disorders. It has been proposed that smoking has an impact on people’s mental health, and that stopping smoking could help to improve mental health. There are a number of ongoing research studies investigating if this is the case.

Ysmygu yn cael effaith anffafriol mawr ar iechyd smygwyr, yn cyfrannu at, ymhlith pethau eraill, mwy o berygl datblygu clefydau cardiofasgwlaidd / anadlol, diabetes, ac amrywiaeth o ganser3. Am y rheswm yma mae’r mwg o sigarets yn yr achos unigol mwyaf o salwch a marwolaeth y gellir cael eu hatal yn y DU4.
Smoking has a major adverse impact on a smoker's health, contributing to, amongst other things, an increased risk of developing cardiovascular / respiratory disease, diabetes, and a variety of cancers3. For this reason cigarette smoking is the single biggest cause of preventable illness and premature death in the UK4. Evidence suggests that the risk of dying or having a tobacco related illness is dramatically reduced within a year of stopping smoking and hence by preventing prison inmates and officers from smoking through a ban would serve to significantly improve their health, as well as reduce the longer term costs of treating smoking related illnesses.

Mae cynhyrchion gwresogi nid llosgi’n defnyddio tybaco cywasgedig ar ffurf ‘mini-sigarét’ mewn anweddydd. Yn wahanol i sigaréts electronig, sy’n anweddu nicotin sydd wedi’i ddal mewn hylif, mae dyfais gwresogi nid llosgi’n gwresogi ac anweddu tybaco go iawn, gan olygu bod yn rhaid eu hystyried yn gynhyrchion tybaco.
Heat not burn products use compressed tobacco in a ‘mini-cigarette’ form in a vapouriser. Unlike electronic cigarettes which vapourise nicotine suspended in a liquid, a heat not burn device heats and vapourises actual tobacco, meaning they must be considered as tobacco products. Unlike ordinary cigarettes, however, no combustion of the tobacco takes place.

Like playgrounds, school gates are a key area where young people congregate daily to meet friends, get an education and are heavily influenced by the people around them. 11 councils in Wales have now made their primary school gates smokefree zones and 3 of these have gone a step further to make their secondary school gates no smoking too.

Sales of heat not burn products are substantial and rapidly growing in Japan, accounting for 5.5% of the cigarette market according to the most recent estimates. At present in the UK, however, knowledge and usage of heat not burn products is low. It proved to be a very productive event, with colleagues from Welsh Government, Public Health Wales, BHF, Royal College of Psychiatrists and NHS Wales in attendance. Presentations from ASH Scotland, MIND Aberystwyth and York University were provided on the day, together with group discussions on the topic of challenges around smoking cessation and mental ill health, and potential solutions to the problem. Following on from the event we have produced a list of recommendations resulting from the discussions that took place, which will be written up into a report and made available to Welsh Government.

Ym mis Ionawr 2017 cynaliasom ddigwyddiad diweddaraf Tybaco neu Iechyd Cymru ar bwnc smygu ac afiechyd meddwl. Roedd yn ddigwyddiad cynhyrchiol iawn, a daeth cydweithwyr o Lywodraeth Cymru, Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru, Sefydliad Prydeinig y Galon, Coleg Brenhinol y Seiciatryddion a GIG Cymru iddo.
In January 2017 we staged the latest Welsh Tobacco or Health (WTHN) event on the topic of smoking and mental ill health.
  Cynhyrchion gwresogi ni...
Y cynnyrch gwresogi nid llosgi cyntaf ar y farchnad yn y Deyrnas Unedig oedd Ploom, y dechreuodd Japan Tobacco International (JTI) ei werthu yn 2014. Dechreuodd Phillip Morris International (PMI) werthu ei gynnyrch gwresogi nid llosgi, IQOS, yn y Deyrnas Unedig tua diwedd 2016.
The first heat not burn product on the UK market was Ploom, released by Japan Tobacco International (JTI) in 2014. Phillip Morris International (PMI) began selling its heat not burn product, IQOS, in the UK in late 2016. Other tobacco transnationals have also developed heat not burn devices, such as British American Tobacco (BAT) which have Glo and iFuse as part of their portfolio, however these have yet to be launched officially in the UK. Whilst there are other devices in the UK market that can vapourise tobacco leaf which are not produced by the tobacco transnationals, they do not appear to be widely used at present.
  Smygu ac iechyd meddwl ...
Yn y gorffennol nid oedd gweithwyr iechyd meddwl yn ystyried bod hybu rhoi’r gorau i smygu yn flaenoriaeth, er gwaethaf y canlyniadau y gall smygu eu cael i iechyd corfforol claf. Felly datblygodd ‘diwylliant o smygu’ o gwmpas llawer o leoliadau iechyd meddwl, ac ni chafodd smygu ei herio gan y staff am amrywiaeth fawr o resymau.
Promoting smoking cessation has historically not been seen as a priority by mental health workers, despite the potential consequences of smoking for a patient’s physical health. A ‘smoking culture’ therefore developed around many mental health settings, with smoking not being challenged by staff for a wide variety of reasons. Nevertheless, we know that smokers with mental disorders are just as likely to want to quit as those without. Effective smoking cessation programmes for people who have mental health issues are designed around their specific mental illness; they involve flexible programmes that accommodate their lifestyle.
  Smygu mewn carchardai -...
Carchardai yn llefydd lle mae pobl yn byw a gweithio. Mae gan carcharorion a staff yr un hawl a’r poblogaeth cyffredinol i gael eu amddiffyn o fwg tybaco wenwynig yn eu cartref a gweithle. Mae amlygiad i fwg ail-law yn cael effaith andwyol mawr i’r iechyd o wylwyr sydd ddim yn ‘smygu, yn cynyddu’r siawns o ddatblygu canser yr ysgyfaint a chlefyd coronaidd y galon.
Prisons are places where people live and work. Inmates and staff have as much right as the general population to be protected from toxic tobacco smoke in their home and workplace. Exposure to SHS has a major adverse impact on the health of non-smoking bystanders, increasing the risk of developing lung cancer and coronary heart disease. This is the case for both short-term and long-term exposure to SHS. It has been estimated that domestic exposure to SHS in the UK causes around 2,700 deaths in people aged 20-63 and a further 8,000 deaths a year among people aged 65 years and older5.
  Hyfforddiant wedi'i dei...

We will work with you to ensure the training is pitched at the right level and audience, and make sure everyone leaves with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to tackle smoking and tobacco use.
  Mannau Di-fwg - ASH Wal...
Fel meysydd chwarae, mae gatiau ysgol yn fannau allweddol lle mae pobl ifanc yn ymgynnull bob dydd i gyfarfod â’u ffrindiau a chael addysg, ac mae’r bobl o’u cwmpas yn dylanwadu’n fawr arnyn nhw. Erbyn hyn mae 11 cyngor yng Nghymru wedi gwneud gatiau eu hysgolion cynradd yn fannau di-fwg ac mae 3 ohonyn nhw wedi mynd gam ymhellach a gwneud gatiau eu hysgolion uwchradd yn fannau di-fwg hefyd.
Like playgrounds, school gates are a key area where young people congregate daily to meet friends, get an education and are heavily influenced by the people around them. 11 councils in Wales have now made their primary school gates smokefree zones and 3 of these have gone a step further to make their secondary school gates no smoking too.

Mae smygu mewn mannau i deuluoedd yn cyfleu neges i blant bod tybaco’n rhan gyffredin o fywyd yn hytrach na chyffur marwol a chaethiwus. Yn ogystal â hyn, gall bonion sigaréts gymryd hyd at 12 mlynedd i fioddiraddio, ac yn y cyfamser maent yn creu perygl i anifeiliaid a phlant ifanc, a all eu llyncu.
Smoking in family-friendly areas sends children a message that tobacco is a common part of life rather than a deadly addictive drug. Alongside this, cigarette butts can take up to 12 years to biodegrade, posing a danger to animals and young children who may ingest them in the meantime. And that’s not even counting the boxes, cellophane, lighters, matches, matchboxes, paper or pouches that also blight our parks and playgrounds and cost money to clean up. We believe that children and young people have a right to play, meet their friends and take part in sports in a clean, smokefree environment.
