Dr. Sykes believes that a Canadian system of guidelines and accountability in human research must include all sectors of the research community including humanities, social and behavioural sciences and biomedical areas. A member of the University of Waterloo's Human Research Ethics Committee and of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Research Ethics Boards (CAREB) Interim Working Group, Dr. Sykes has great appreciation of the issues facing Canadian Research Ethics Boards, and provides an interface between CAREB and the Panel. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Health Studies and Gerontology at the University of Waterloo and currently teaches fourth year undergraduate courses in Psychology.
