Su quest’isola sul Tevere, dalla forma allungata di nave, sorge oggi un ospedale. Il luogo è da sempre legato a una funzione curativa, almeno secondo una leggenda che narra come nel 293 avanti Cristo Roma fosse stata colpita dalla peste e e per questo si volle costruire un tempio al dio Esculapio, istruito in medicina. Mentre la barca con la statua risaliva il Tevere un serpente, simbolo del dio, sarebbe saltato sull'isola per indicare dove far sorgere il tempio. L'isola Tiberina è collegata alla terraferma dal Ponte Cestio, eretto nel 46 avanti Cristo. Proseguendo sul Lungotevere degli Anguillara, si attraversa Ponte Garibaldi e Via Arenula per giungere nell’area sacra di Torre Argentina, dove sono i resti di templi del II secolo avanti Cristo.

Su quest’isola sul Tevere, dalla forma allungata di nave, sorge oggi un ospedale. Il luogo è da sempre legato a una funzione curativa, almeno secondo una leggenda che narra come nel 293 avanti Cristo Roma fosse stata colpita dalla peste e e per questo si volle costruire un tempio al dio Esculapio, istruito in medicina. Mentre la barca con la statua risaliva il Tevere un serpente, simbolo del dio, sarebbe saltato sull'isola per indicare dove far sorgere il tempio. L'isola Tiberina è collegata alla terraferma dal Ponte Cestio, eretto nel 46 avanti Cristo. Proseguendo sul Lungotevere degli Anguillara, si attraversa Ponte Garibaldi e Via Arenula per giungere nell’area sacra di Torre Argentina, dove sono i resti di templi del II secolo avanti Cristo.
