The television journalist's next big appearance that brought him fame dates to February 28, 1992. A helicopter carrying the television journalist departed from Azerbaijani-populated village Umudlu in the north of Nagorno-Karabakh and headed for the settlement of Khojaly, which on the night of February 26 was cleared from members of Azerbaijani OMON that had built a nest there and from other illegal armed groups acting on the territory of the young republic. Naturally, Mustafayev could not film any corpses in Khojaly because there were no corpses there. The corpses were found on the territory, which was adjacent to Azerbaijani regional center Aghdam, and was under full control of Azerbaijani servicemen until mid-summer of 1993.
