Ms. Lorna Hancock: I would like to recommend enforcement of the existing regulations under the Food and Drugs Act. As Cathrine was saying, GMP covers things like what's in a bottle. Just enforce what we already have.

Lorna and Cathrine, from the Health Action Network Society, are saying that the system would be fine if there was a policy commitment to looking at these alternatives and if there was the political will to put in place a proper response to the current regulatory framework.

Je crois que nos deux témoins principaux l'ont très bien exprimé. Robert, de la Citizens for Choice in Health Care, affirme en effet, qu'au sein de la Direction de la protection de la santé on n'appuie pas les produits naturels et même qu'on s'y oppose, et qu'en raison de cela, il nous faudrait un organisme de réglementation distinct dont les membres auraient des compétences distinctes. Quant à Lorna et Cathrine, de la Health Action Network Society, elles estiment que le système serait acceptable si on s'engageait à étudier ces autres formes de médecine et s'il existait une volonté politique capable d'intervenir pour adapter la réglementation actuelle.
