The Downtown Eastside (DTES) Case Coordination Project (CCP) represented an innovative approach to providing supports to long-term unemployed residents of the DTES. The aim of the CCP was to explore whether this approach could be used to help long-term unemployed individuals move into work or to become more self-sufficient. The findings from this evaluation suggest that, in order to achieve employment outcomes with individuals experiencing multiple and complex barriers, the underlying issues must be addressed as well as ensuring individuals basic needs are being met. When clients’ health, housing, and related issues were being addressed or managed, clients needed to have the coping skills to enable them to cope with the challenges of everyday life. These findings are indicative rather than conclusive, partly because of the relatively small number of individuals who moved into employment and because of data quality issues that limited analyses. Further research is required to explore whether these findings and the lessons arising from the Case Coordination Project are transferable.

Le quotidien de centre-gauche Népszabadság attire l'attention sur le fait que les habitants de certaines régions de Hongrie, notamment au nord-est du pays, sont condamnés à la pauvreté : "Si un enfant hongrois ne naît pas au bon endroit dans ce pays, il n'a pas grand-chose à attendre de la vie. S'il voit le jour dans la région de Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, au nord-est du pays, son espérance de vie sera en moyenne 20 à 30 ans inférieure à celle des autres Hongrois. Et que fait le gouvernement ultraconservateur de Viktor Orbán contre cela ? Pas grand-chose. Au contraire. Pendant que les députés du parti minoritaire de la coalition gouvernementale, le Parti populaire chrétien-démocrate (KDNP), se plaignent de leur 'faible' rétribution parlementaire de 750.000 forints [environ 2.500 euros], ils réduisent l'aide sociale destinée aux chômeurs de longue durée de 28.500 à 22.800 forints [de 95 à 75 euros environ]. C'est avec cette somme que les pauvres parmi les pauvres sont censés survivre. Un destin similaire à celui de leurs parents attend les enfants qui grandissent dans de telles conditions."

According to the most recent Unicef report just under a third of all children in Hungary live in poverty. The left-liberal daily Népszabadság points out that people in certain regions, particularly in the north-east of the country, are condemned to poverty: "When a child is not born in the right place it can expect little from life. If it first sees the light of day in the north-eastern region of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén its life will be on average 20 to 30 years shorter than those of other people. And what is Viktor Orbán's right-wing conservative government doing to remedy this? Not much. On the contrary, while the MPs of the junior coalition partner, the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP), moan about their 'low' salaries of 750,000 forint [approximately 2,500 euros] they are cutting the social benefits for the long-term unemployed from 28,500 forint to 22,800 forint [from roughly 95 to 75 euros]. With this sum the poorest of the poor are supposed to make ends meet. A similar fate to that of their parents awaits the children who grow up in such circumstances."

Brasserie de Marsinne stelt alles in het werk om de eerste CO2 neutrale microbrouwerij te worden. Het brouwproces heeft een minimale milieu-impact; het produceert een minimum aan afval en restwater en consumeert een minimum aan energie.  Zo worden de dampen die vrijkomen bij het brouwproces opgevangen en hergebruikt en draait de brouwerij op groene stroom. De verpakking van de bieren is minimalistisch, zonder etiketten en lijm en dus zonder detergenten en bestaat voor bijna 100% uit gerecycleerde en recycleerbare materialen. Alle grondstoffen zijn Belgisch, bij voorkeur bio en lokaal, bijgevolg heeft het eindproduct slechts een beperkt aantal kilometers afgelegd.
