3 The date 261 is incorrect, for papyri show that Macrianus and Quietus were recognized as emperors in Egypt in Sept. 260. On this revolt see Tyr. Trig. XII‑XIV; XVIII. This vita, beginning as it does with this event, omits any account of Gallienus' success in repelling the Germans who attempted to (p19)invade Gaul in 254‑258 or of his suppression of the revolt of Ingenuus in Pannonia in 258 or 259 (see Tyr. Trig. IX).
