With a renewed provincial interest in federal-provincial oceans planning, the development of IM is ongoing. Ecologically Significant Species (ESS) and Ecologically Significant Community Properties (ESCP) are currently being identified. A Social, Economic and Cultural Overview and Assessment (SECOA) report is currently in development for the Gulf of St. Lawrence Integrated Management (GOSLIM) area. The SECOA will provide a basic understanding of important societal characteristics and trends that require consideration when developing objectives in an IM plan for the GOSLIM LOMA. In addition, this information will be important for the identification of Valued Economic and Socio-cultural Areas in the LOMA. In addition, Conservation Objectives for the GOSLIM are being developed. These conservation objectives are intended to guide managers and other ecosystem users throughout the IM process of human activities that will be carried out there, by setting the safety limits within which the Social, Cultural and Economic Objectives are established.
