Changes in the number of foreign citizens are particularly influenced by immigration and emigration, and that people receive Norwegian citizenship. The past years have shown a large immigration of Iraqis, Somalis, Afghanis and Russians, while many from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Turkey, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Iraq and Somalia have become Norwegian citizens. The number of foreign citizens shows a different picture of the immigrant population than the standard classification from Statistics Norway . There were for instance 1 580 Vietnamese citizens in Norway at the beginning of 2004, while figures from 1.1.2003 show that there were 11 700 people born in Vietnam and 5 250 born in Norway with two parents born in Vietnam.

Salsinntektene auka med 4,9 prosent frå 1999. Driftsmarginen, som speglar høvet mellom driftsresultatet og driftsinntektene, gjekk opp eit prosentpoeng til 17,7 prosent i 2000. Sales income rose by 4.9 per cent from 1999 to 2000. The operating margin rose from 16.8 to 17.7 per cent in 2000. As in 1999 the production plants and grid companies had highest profit margins with 34.7 and 23.1 per cent respectively. In comparison the profit margin for all not-financial joint-stock companies in Norway was 9.7 per cent in 2000. The annual profit rose by 16.8 per cent to NOK 6.7 billion in 2000, of which NOK 3.7 billion are proposed dividends.

The population growth of 67 600 will be approximately twice as high as in the years preceding 2006. In the seven years from 2006 onwards, the population growth has totalled 413 000. Not since 1920 has the percentage growth been at the same level. Seventy-two per cent of the population growth will come from migration surplus from abroad, and 28 per cent will be due to the birth surplus. Earlier figures show that the birth surplus in the middle of the 1990s was around 70 per cent. A net migration from abroad of 48 600 will be the highest result ever recorded; 1 600 higher than in the previous peak year of 2011. A birth excess of 19 000 will be at the same level as in the years from 2008 onwards, but before that we must go back to the years preceding 1975 to find higher figures.

The prices on electric energy decreased and the consumption increased steadily the last years. 2000 was no exception to this development. Gross consumption rose by 2.8 per cent and reached 124 TWh in 2000. The electricity prices for households fell by 7.2 per cent to an average of 14.1 øre/kWh, and in the wholesale market the prices decreased by 13 per cent to 10.7 øre/kWh in average for 2000 exclusive tax and grid rent. The water reservoir levels were above the median for the 1990-1999 period. This resulted in a record high production in the water-based production of electricity. The production of 143 TWh was 16.8 per cent above the production in 1999. With normal amount of snow and rain the Norwegian production of electric energy a year is 118 TWh. Norway exported 20.5 TWh valued to NOK 1.8 billion The operating business result has been stable the last years, but the power sector received a great impetus in 2000 as concern the operating results. Production plants and high-integrated plants clearly improved, while wholesale plants, distribution plants and other plants experienced a decrease in the operating results. This can indicate that the economic profit of the high precipitation in 2000 is located to the production of electric energy.
