The European Parliament almost unanimously delayed the discharge of the EP budget 2004 in today's plenary session in Brussels. "In view of the very recent allegations of excessive rental payments to the city of Strasbourg, we had no other option but to delay discharge for Parliament's budget in 2004. It is now up to the city of Strasbourg to clear up the existing allegations as fast as possible and without any tactical delays. Brok wies darauf hin, dass sich das Europäische Parlament ein uneingeschränktes Konsultationsrecht als Bedingung für seine Zustimmung zum Beitritt dieser beiden Länder vorbehalten habe. "Diesem Anliegen ist der Kommissar auch gerecht geworden. Ich hätte mir jedoch schon jetzt eine deutlichere Aussage von Herrn Rehn darüber gewünscht, wie die Kommission den notwendigen Reformdruck auf Bukarest und Sofia im Falle einer positiven Beitrittsempfehlung bereits zum 1. Januar 2007 aufrechterhalten will", sagte Brok heute vor dem Plenum des Europäischen Parlaments in Brüssel.
