ERS, Elevator Repair Service, was formed in 1991 by former students of New York and Yale Universities, together with members of an off-Off Broadway group. We're talking theatre that lifts you up. The performers, designers, writers and directors of ERS are set to repair the winches on the seventh row of flats, hauling themselves up to the paradise of the absurd to mess with the mystery, the intuition and the absurdity of our contemporary human condition.

ERS, Elevator Repair Service, fut fondé en 1991 par d’anciens étudiants des universités de Yale et de New York, rejoints par les membres d’une communauté off-Off Broadway. Le théâtre “élève”, c’est entendu. Les performers, designers, écrivains et metteurs en scène de “Service de Réparation d’Ascenseurs” allaient donc en réparer les treuils vers le 7e cintre, se hisser au paradis du non sense pour jouer avec le mystérieux, l’intuitif et l’absurde de notre “contemporary human condition”.

Proche du Wooster Group - dont John Collins, l’un des leaders, est l’ingénieur son -, le collectif new-yorkais bricole alors ses lift(ing)s théâtraux pour délester le béton de la vieille illusion.
