Un nouveau programme de recherche sur « le changement climatique, l’agriculture et la sécurité (CCAFS) alimentaire » permettra d’établir une passerelle entre la recherche agricole liée au changement climatique menée à l’Institut international de recherche sur l’élevage (ILRI) et dans les 14 autres centres du CGIAR d’une part, et les programmes de recherche Changement Global du Partenariat pour l’étude scientifique du système terrestre (ESSP) d’autre part. Le lancement officiel du programme CCAFS aura lieu le 4 décembre à l’occasion de la Journée de l’agriculture et du développement rural, en marge d’une réunion des Nations Unies sur le changement climatique. Cette initiative est la plus complète jamais entreprise à ce jour pour analyser les interactions entre le changement climatique et la sécurité alimentaire, les moyens de subsistance et la gestion de l’environnement. Fruit d’une collaboration inédite entre le Groupe consultatif pour la recherche agricole internationale (CGIAR) et le Partenariat pour l’étude scientifique du système terrestre (ESSP), le programme CCAFS – coordonné par le Centre international d’agriculture tropicale (CIAT), partenaire de recherche clé établi en Colombie – vise à établir des liens plus étroits entre les chercheurs du CGIAR, de l’ESSP et de leurs organisations partenaires respectives. Le lancement de ce programme marque le début d’un partenariat à long terme, doté d’un budget initial de 206 millions de dollars EU sur trois ans. (Source : ILRI, 19 novembre 2010).
