In the next stage of development, the FDT Group aims to provide these features for mobile devices as well, so that users can retrieve and display settings, measurement curves or the status of the field devices on a tablet PC, for example. As this is particularly relevant for work in hazardous areas, BARTEC is now involved with the FDT Group as a new member of a new working group.

This technology is developed by the FDT Group, an independent non-profit alliance of international companies founded under Belgian company law (AISBL) in 2005. The HART Add-on module is a new extension module for Agile X and offers a HART modem function. It may be connected to a HART loop as secondary master and facilitates applications such as configuring the HART devices. Due to the Windows operating system, the user can deploy all current software solutions and communicate using the FDT/DTM industrial standard. Agile X equipped with HART Add-on module is the new safe solution when working in potentially explosive and non potentially explosive atmospheres: parameter assignment, configuration, measurement and office tasks can be carried out much easier, faster and more safely.

Da der Nutzer nun sicher zwischen Ex- und Nicht-Ex-Bereich wechseln kann, ist nur noch ein Gerät nötig, um die dort verteilten Feldgeräte völlig unabhängig vom Leitsystem drahtlos auszulesen oder einzustellen. Auf dem Windows-basierten Agile X lassen sich dazu die im Markt üblichen Softwarelösungen nutzen. So ist auch eine Kommunikation über den Industriestandard FDT/DTM möglich.

Previously considerable time and effort was needed to diagnose problems and set the parameters on field devices. It was necessary to equip a laptop with a separate HART modem, but this was not allowed to be used simultaneously in an Ex area and non-Ex area. Use in the Ex area required a fire certificate with complicated approval procedure. The HART modem is used as an add-on module for the Agile X tablet PC system in its extension interface. Since the user is now able to switch safely between the Ex and non-Ex area, only one device is then needed for the wireless uploading or adjusting of the field devices distributed there, completely independently of the control system. The usual software solutions on the market may also be used on the Windows-based Agile X. Communication using the industrial standard FDT/DTM is therefore also possible.
