. Den var organisert i åtte grupper med tre trykkbrytere som var montert på et 100 m2 stort gulv i perforert metall. Disse styrte feil og mangler som var skrevet inn i et dataprogram. På denne måten kontrollerte man den klanglige og strukturelle utviklingen til disse feilene samtidig som man beholdt lydens ødelagte karakter.
I worked with networks of speakers positioned on the floor. 40 different loudspeakers were placed under a 100 m2 floor of perforated metal. The large number of sound sources under the floor made it possible to construct very specific tracks and paths that the sound could travel, resulting in a kind of acoustic action painting in which the sound was emptied, dripped and thrown across the floor.

Vi ønsket å undersøke forholdet mellom byens lyd, lydens spor og lydkildenes egenart. Lydkildenes egenart ble ytterligere undersøkt gjennom å fremelske ulike former for tekniske feil. Fra datamaskiner som krasjet, til høyttalere som ble pint til bristepunktet; på denne måten strakk vi byens lydenergi til yttergrensene.
The sound of the installation was not a direct representation of the sound of the city, but on the contrary highly abstracted. We wanted to investigate the relationship between the sound of the city, the tracks it made and the distinctive characteristics of the sound sources. The characteristics of the sound sources were further investigated through cultivating various forms of technical errors. From computers that crashed, to loudspeakers that were tormented to the breaking point; in this way we stretched the outer limits of the sounding energy of the city.

Lydens kompositoriske sammensetning ble kontrollert av sensorer på gulvets overflate. Disse styrte igjen ulike feil og mangler som var skrevet inn i et dataprogram. På denne måten kontrollerte man den klanglige og strukturelle utviklingen av disse feilene, samtidig som man beholdt lydens ødelagte karakter.
So, the installation consisted of a 100 m2 floor of perforated metal. Under the floor there was a network of forty distorted loudspeakers that together constituted a spatial acoustic field. Sensors on the floor surface controlled the compositional combinations of the sounds. They controlled the different defects and errors that were written into a computer program. In this way, you could control the textural and structural evolution of these errors, while keeping the distorted character of the sound.
