Aliou, Garba, Oumar and Nathanael used to live between Timbuktu, Guire and Gao. They were all musicians, but had no plans at the begnning to play together. In 2012, they ran away from the Jihadists and settled down in Bamako where they met by random.

Aliou, Garba, Oumar et Nathanael vivaient entre Tombouctou, Guire et Gao. Tous musiciens, mais sans l'idée initiale de jouer ensemble. Ils ont tous fui l'occupation du nord du Mali par les Jihadistes en 2012 et se sont retrouvés par hasard ensemble à Bamako. Ils ont fondé le groupe, Songhoy Blues pour maintenir en vie leurs traditions, leur musique, leur culture menacée par cette occupation arbitraire.
