Durch die Bekanntgabe der Einlagerposition (nahe oder fern an der Bedienöffnung) kann DC21 dem Tablar eine ABC-Klasse geben und so eine umschlagsorientierte ABC-Verteilung bei der Einlagerung vornehmen und damit die Einlagerstrategien nutzen. Die Software betrachtet ein Kompaktlager wie eine Gasse mit Regalbediengerät und entsprechenden Übergabeplätzen.

The compact storage system allows storing goods optimally in height and thus using the storage tower at its best. By announcing the storage position (close or distant to the delivery opening), DC21 can assign an ABC-rating to the tray and thus perform a turnover-oriented ABC distribution when storing the goods and thus benefit from the storage strategies. The software considers a compact storage system as an aisle with automatic storage and retrieval crane and corresponding handover positions. Consequently, all optimizations of material flow control can also be found here.

Automated Small-Parts Warehouses operators used to have only two choices: Conventional automated storage and retrieval cranes (AS/RS) with approximately 120 double cycles per hour and common shuttle systems with a capacity of up to 1,000 double cycles per hour. This gap is closed by multilevel-shuttle system KlinCAT®. With a lifting height of around 1.5 meters KlinCAT® is able to reach up to 9 tote levels and can be used like a shuttle on several levels above each other. In a single-aisle, double-deep automated small-parts warehouse with a height of 12 meters and a length of 35 meters, KlinCAT® achieves more than three times the performance of conventional storage/retrieval cranes.

Im Vergleich zu Shuttle-Systemen fallen geringere Wartungs- und Betriebskosten aufgrund der geringeren Anzahl von Lagerfahrzeugen an. Bei Wartung oder Ausfall eines Regalbediengerätes ist eine komplette Gasse nicht mehr erreichbar.

Compared to shuttle systems, maintenance and operating costs are much lower because of the smaller number of warehouse vehicles. During maintenance of an automatic storage/retrieval crane or in the event of a failure the complete aisle can no longer be reached and a manual access to storage containers is very elaborate and time-consuming due to the large height of the warehouse. With KlinCAT®, a maintenance level is integrated on each drive level which guarantees manual access to the single storage locations and ensures that maintenance activities can be carried out much faster and more purposefully. This way, highest availability is achieved.

An innovative drive concept also makes a contribution to the lightweight design. Thanks to the lighter overall design it was possible to use travel and lifting motors with a lower driving power. The energy supply concept to conduct the link of the drive systems and components via conductor lines networks all drives of one aisle, reduces the number of on-board KlinCAT® components and thus allows recuperation or energy recovery. For KlinCAT®, an energy-efficient spindle drive is used which consumes almost no energy when idle compared to a belt drive. This way, the energy efficiency is further optimized in the context of "Green Logistics". The lightweight design and the energy-optimized structure therefore contribute also to the economic operation of warehouse systems with KlinCAT®.

Automatic consolidation buffers are frequently used for the shipment consolidation of totes, especially in zone-to-zone picking systems. As realized at Winkler or Brütsch-Rüegger, totes with completed orders are collected to transport them to the shipping department later. Reasons for this are on the one hand orders comprising several totes which shall be packed together, but are picked independently of each other (due to volume calculation or decentralized order start) and on the other hand orders which extend over several storage areas (e.g. parts from a shelf storage system and parts from a pallet storage system) and thus the system parts have to wait for each other. In addition to the temporary storage, the consolidation buffer thus represents a waiting position as well. The management and control of an automatic consolidation buffer is the same as for the aisle of an automatic small parts warehouse. A multiple load handling device used in most cases is able to accommodate several totes simultaneously and thus make available very quickly an order when removing products from the stock. With the multiple-deep storage, the order totes are held together by orders such that actually several totes can be made available by one single load handling device cycle. Sometimes automatic consolidation buffers are equipped with an additional processing position to be able to make additions to already existing totes - e.g. if goods missing for an order arrive in the goods receiving area. This reduces warehouse movements and saves time.
