Um Aussagen über den Vergleich von Varianten machen zu können, müssen zunächst die Einflussfaktoren, die von numerischen und physikalischen Instabilitäten herrühren, minimiert werden. Dazu müssen die Orte, an denen solche Instabilitäten auftreten, detektiert und visualisiert werden. Am Institut für Algorithmen und Wissenschaftliches Rechnen (SCAI) des Projektpartners GMD wurde ein Deformationsfunktional entwickelt, dass die relative Verschiebung eines Netzknotens zu seiner Nachbarschaft bewertet. Die Standardabweichung dieser Netzdeformation über mehrere Simulationsläufe kann schließlich als Farbe auf der sich verformenden Geometrie visualisiert werden.
