Stephen Hedges - Cerdded Ffiniau Cymru Haf 2014
Stephen Hedges - The Boundary of Wales Walk Summer 2014
  Dave Quarrell
Wrth edrych yn ôl, doedd dewis cerdded Cymru’n ystod yr haf gwlypaf ers 100 mlynedd, ddim, mae'n debyg, y syniad doethaf. Roedd Ceredigion yn dioddef llifogydd difrifol y diwrnod pan gyrhaeddais Aberystwyth a’r diwrnod canlynol bu’n rhaid i mi anghofio am ddarn 8 milltir o’r llwybr y tu hwnt i’r Borth a oedd o dan droedfeddi o ddŵr - ond daeth cyfle i gerdded hwn yn ddiweddarach yn y flwyddyn.
With hindsight, choosing to walk Wales during the wettest UK summer for 100 years was probably not the wisest idea. Ceredigion was hit by severe flooding on the day that I arrived in Aberystwyth, and the following day I had to skip an 8-mile section of the route beyond Borth because it was under several feet of water - I went back later in the year to re-do this bit. The next day I got a few funny looks from fire crews and police as I wandered calmly through a village that had just been evacuated due to concerns that a reservoir might breach its dam. On the plus side, anyone following the same route in future years is statistically very likely to stay drier!
  Llanrhidian a Cheriton
Mae cân y bioden fôr i’w chlywed dros y gors wrth iddi hedfan uwchben gan wibio’n gyflym o le i le. Mae’r gylfinir, y gornchwiglen a’r crëyr bach prydferth i gyd i’w gweld yn y foryd yn chwilota’n ddiwyd am fwyd. Ddiwedd haf gallech fod mor ffodus â gweld gwalch y pysgod yn galw heibio.
The estuary as a whole is one of the most important wintering areas for wildfowl and waders. The call of the oystercatchers, rings out across the marsh as they fly over it and move swiftly from place to place. The curlew, lapwing and beautiful little egret can all be seen on the estuary busily searching for food. If you are lucky you might even see an osprey passing through at the end of the summer.
  Cilgerran ac Aberteifi
Chwiliwch am dafarn leol neu gaffi yn Aberteifi neu Gilgerran, neu beth am fynd i Gaffi’r Tŷ Gwydr yng Nghanolfan Natur Cymru i gael golygfa drawiadol banoramig o Gorsydd Teifi. Mae marchnad gyffredinol ar agor bob dydd yn Neuadd y Dref sy’n gwerthu crefftau yn ystod yr haf (gydag oriel gelf hefyd).
Seek out a local pub or tea shop in Cardigan or Cilgerran, vist the aptly named Glasshouse Cafe at the Welsh Wildlife Centre for a stunning panoramic view of the Teifi Marshes. There is also a general market which is open every day and expands with crafts for the summer at the Guildhall (it also has an art gallery) . The Farmers Market has local produce for sale and is every second Thursday at Pwllhai. Wherever you stop you will find a friendly welcome and great food.
  Mike Langley
Nid oedd llawer o isafbwyntiau i mi ond gan mai hwn oedd yr haf gwlypaf yng Nghymru ers blynyddoedd, cawsom sawl moment fwdlyd. Wrth ddod i lawr camfa, fe laniais mewn mwd, gan adael fy esgid ar ôl - er mawr ddifyrrwch i’m ffrindiau!
There were not many low points for me but being the wettest summer in Wales for years, there were a few muddy moments. On descending a stile, I landed in mud, leaving my walking shoe behind – causing great amusement to my friends! On another occasion, walking on the beach for 4km, I found the high winds, rain and driving sand took my breath away. Not the most enjoyable day of the journey but reaching a warm and friendly café in Rhosneigr helped us to dry out and get warm again and it’s worth saying, the crashing waves were spectacular in that weather!
  Zoe Wathen
Dychwelais adref gyda dos 5,000 o luniau a dechrau meddwl sut cefais amser i gerdded o gwbl, gyda chynifer o luniau ar fy nghamera! Mae Cymru’n brydferth, beth bynnag fo’r tywydd (gan nad 2012 oedd y flwyddyn orau i gael haul yr haf), ond gwnaethom y gorau ohoni a byddwn yn argymell y profiad i unrhyw sy’n cynllunio taith debyg!
The friendships forged and the kindness and generosity of the people and traditional Welsh communities we met along the way simply bowled me over. I came home with over 5,000 photographs and began to wonder how I had managed to find time to walk at all, with so many images on my camera! Wales is beautiful, regardless of the weather (as 2012 was not the best year for summer sun), but we made the most of it and I would recommend the experience to anyone planning a similar trip!
  Gwyliau cerdded
O ieir bach yr haf i hwyl ar y traeth a llongddrylliadau ac archaeoleg, mae’r ŵyl haf yn amser gwych i archwilio hyfrydwch Pen Llŷn. Mae cystadleuaeth ffotograffiaeth, hyd yn oed, er mwyn cipio eich hoff leoedd ar hyd y ffordd.
From butterflies to beach fun and shipwrecks to archaeology, the summer festival is a great time to explore the stunning Llŷn Peninsula. There’s even a photography competition to capture your favourite places along the way. It’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so it won’t be hard to find inspiration. For more information, call 01758 704155/176.
  Gwyliau cerdded
Dywedodd y Gweinidog Diwylliant a Chwaraeon, John Griffiths, “Rwyf yn falch iawn o weld bod ein Llwybr Arfordir Cymru yn ganolbwynt ar gyfer cymaint o wyliau cerdded. Mae’r gwyliau hyn yn gyfle delfrydol i fwynhau ymarfer corff iachus ac ar yr un pryd archwilio ein morlin a’n cefn gwlad trawiadol. Gan fod gwyliau cerdded yn cael eu cynnal drwy gydol yr haf yng ngogledd, canolbarth a de Cymru, bydd cyfle i bawb fynd allan a mwynhau popeth sy’n wych am ein Llwybr Arfordir”.
Minister for Culture and Sport, John Griffiths, said: “I am very pleased to see that our Wales Coast Path is the focus for so many walking festivals. These festivals are an ideal opportunity to enjoy healthy exercise and at the same time explore our stunning coastline and countryside. With walking festivals being held throughout the summer in north, mid and south Wales there will be a chance for all of us to get out there and enjoy all that is great about our Coast Path”.

Fodd bynnag, roedd y profiad yn rhywbeth roeddwn eisiau ei ddal, ei boteli a mynd ag ef adre gyda fi. Felly pan gyhoeddodd fy ffrindiau a’m cyd-gerddwyr, Steve Webb a Mike Langley, y byddent yn cerdded Llwybr newydd Arfordir Cymru yn ystod gwyliau haf 2012, roedd y dynfa’n ormod!
July 21st 2012 saw the start of WathWalk number 2. In 2011, I walked the South West Coast Path in 47 days - this was my first long distance path - and thought it would be my only one. However, the experience was something that I wanted to capture, bottle and take home with me. So when friends and fellow walkers, Steve Webb and Mike Langley, announced they would be walking the new Wales Coast Path in the summer holidays of 2012, the pull was too much to resist! Mike and Steve planned to walk Offa’s Dyke first and then met with me in Chepstow where we continued with our ‘tour’.

  Teithiau cerdded byr
Mae’r llwybrau’n serth mewn mannau ac os byddai’n well gennych weld y golygfeydd heb orfod cerdded i fyny, gallwch ddefnyddio gwasanaethau’r dramffordd neu’r ceir cebl i fynd i’r copa. Mae’r holl wahanol flodau sy’n tyfu ar Ben y Gogarth yn cynnal y cymylau o löynnod byw sydd i’w gweld yn yr haf.
Scenic summit trails take in wonderful views over the elegant town of Llandudno and across to the Menai Strait and Anglesey. The paths are steep in places so if want you the view without the walk, you can reach the top by tram or cable car. The wide range of flowers on the Great Orme provides food for the clouds of butterflies that are seen in summer – and look out for the resident goats. Find out more about the Great Orme Summit Trails.
  Diogelwch a Cŵn
Er bod croeso cynnes i gŵn ar y rhan fwyaf o Lwybr Arfordir Cymru, cofiwch y bydd cŵn yn cael eu gwahardd mewn rhai mannau (gan gynnwys rhai traethau yn ystod yr haf). Mae’n rhaid talu sylw i’r arwyddion gwaharddiadau ar gŵn; bydd dirwy i’w thalu os na fyddwch yn parchu'r gwaharddiadau hyn.
Please be aware that, while dogs are widely welcomed on the Wales Coast Path, you may find some stretches where dog bans are in place (this includes some beaches in the summer season). Please be aware of dog ban notices; a fine will be imposed if you are found to be in breach of a dog ban.
  Traethau Cymru
Dywedodd Tom Shanklin, llysgennad Cadwch Gymru’n Daclus: “Rydw i bob amser yn ymwybodol iawn fy mod yn hynod o lwcus mai yng Nghymru rydw i’n byw oherwydd yn fy marn i yma mae traethau gorau’r byd. Bydd y wefan traethau a’r ap a ddatblygwyd gan Cadwch Gymru’n Daclus yn ddefnyddiol dros ben a bydd popeth arnynt i wneud ymweliad â glan y môr yn brofiad gwerthfawr a dymunol. Byddaf i yn sicr yn eu defnyddio’r haf hwn!”
Keep Wales Tidy is looking forward to highlighting the wildlife, history and culture that can be seen, and through working closely with Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water and Wales Wildlife Trust to provide more up to date information on water quality. Keep Wales Tidy’s Ambassador Tom Shanklin adds: “I’m always aware of how lucky I am to live in Wales because in my opinion we have the best beaches in the world. The beaches website and app developed by Keep Wales Tidy are really useful tools and will provide visitors with everything for their trip to the seaside. I will certainly be using them this summer!”
  Hwyl i'r teulu
Mae lle braf i seiclo neu gerdded (neu hyd yn oed ganŵio yn yr haf) yn y ganolfan gwlyptiroedd ger Llanelli (CGGC/WWT - Canolfan Gwlyptir Genedlaethol Cymru). Cadwch eich llygaid yn agored am rai o’r 600 o rywogaethau o adar a welir yma, gan gynnwys fflamingos.
Cycle or walk (and even canoe in the summer) around the wetlands centre near Llanelli (WWT National Wetland Centre Wales). Try and spot some of the 600 species of birds you can find here – there are flamingos and it is even home to a water vole city.
  Bro Morganwg
"Mae’r daith hon yn cynnwys un o uchafbwyntiau arfordir De Cymru – clogwyni trawiadol Arfordir Treftadaeth Morgannwg, gyda golygfeydd eang yn ymestyn ymhell dros Fôr Hafren ac arfordir Gwlad yr Haf a bryniau Exmoor."
"This walk includes one of the highlights of the South Wales coastline – the dramatic cliff tops of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, with extensive views over the Bristol Channel to the Somerset Coast and the hills of Exmoor.
  Gwylio bywyd gwyllt
Ar ynys Sgomer dros y swnt, mae miloedd o balod o wahanol fathau’n byw. Os hoffech gael golwg agos ar yr adar, cewch fynd ar gwch at yr ynys (yn yr haf) a hyd yn oed aros dros nos (mae’n well trefnu ymlaen llaw).
For a great wildlife experience, without leaving the Coast Path, head to the Deer Park at Marloes. Sit and watch the waters in the Jack Sound race by and look out for gannets and porpoise. In September and October, this is a great place for spotting seal pups on the beaches below (but remember that these are high cliffs so caution is always advised). The island of Skomer sits the other side of the channel - home to thousands of puffin and shearwaters. If you want to see these birds close up, then you can take a boat from here over to the island (in season) and even stay overnight if you want to see the shearwaters (booking advised).
  Jane Hafren
Roedd fy rhannau gorau i yn Sir Benfro yn cynnwys y traeth pitw bach ym Mhwllgwaelod. Cyrhaeddais ar ddiwedd diwrnod poeth iawn yr haf diwethaf a disgwyl tra bod Stu, fy narpar (a thîm wrth gefn gwych o un) yn gorffen nofio, yna gwylio haul diwedd y prynhawn yn suddo tua’r môr.
My favourite parts in Pembrokeshire included the tiny beach at Pwllgwaelod. I arrived at the end of a very hot day last summer and waited while Stu, my intended (and amazing back-up team-of-one) finished a swim, then watched as the late afternoon sunshine dipped towards the sea.  St Brides Bay was gorgeous - Newgale, St David’s, Whitesands Bay and my lunch stop overlooking Caerfai Bay.
Ble yw’r Lle Gorau yng ...
Mae’r Sefydliad Cynllunio Trefol Brenhinol yng Nghymru (RTPI Cymru) wedi casglu eich enwebiadau ar gyfer y lle gorau yng Nghymru dros fisoedd yr haf. Mae Panel Y Lle Gorau yng Nghymru wedi llwyddo i chwynnu’r 200 a mwy o enwebiadau a gafwyd gan y cyhoedd i 10.
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI Cymru) have been collating your nominations  for your best place in Wales over the summer months.  The top 10 best places have been whittled down by Wales Best Place Judging Panel from over 200 nominations from the public.
  Gwledd o Wyliau
Ymhlith y nifer o wyliau sydd i’w gweld yr haf hwn mae un o wyliau diwylliannol mwyaf y byd sef Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru. Bydd y digwyddiad blynyddol hwn yn Ninbych eleni rhwng 2 Awst ac 10 Awst.
Among the many festivals to visit this summer is one of the world’s greatest cultural festivals – the National Eisteddfod. This annual event will be held this year in Denbigh between 2-10 August.
  Pierau a Phromenadau
Mae’r pier yn gynnig golygfeydd da o’r dref a’i chymysgedd bensaernïol anarferol, a draw tua’r tir mawr. Un o’r lleoedd gorau yn y cyffiniau am ddal crancod, yn ôl pob sôn, er efallai y byddai’n well rhoi cynnig ar hynny yn yr haf.
Sometimes dubbed the Anglesey Riviera, the pretty seaside town of Beaumaris is worth exploring. The pier offers great views of the town with its unusual mix of architecture as well as over to the mainland. It is also reputed to be one of the best spots for miles to try a spot of crabbing, though this may be best saved for the warmer summer months.
  Pen-blwydd cyntaf
Cynhaliwyd tri digwyddiad lansio ar yr un pryd ledled Cymru haf y llynedd i nodi ei agoriad swyddogol, gyda miloedd o ymwelwyr a phobl leol yn ymuno yn y dathliadau. Helpodd sylw’r wasg fyd-eang ar Gymru i hysbysebu’r llwybr parhaus hwn o gwmpas arfordir cyfan y wlad – y cyntaf o’i fath yn y byd.
Three simultaneous launch events were held across Wales last summer to mark its official opening, with thousands of visitors and local people joining the celebrations. Global media attention shone a spotlight on Wales to help publicise this continuous path around the entire country’s coastline – the first of its kind in the world.
  Gwledd o Wyliau
Bydd ymwelwyr i Lwybr Arfordir Cymru yn profi gwledd o wyliau'r haf hwn, yn ogystal â gwledd o olygfeydd wrth iddynt lwybro eu ffordd ar hyd arfordir rhyfeddol y wlad.
Visitors to the Wales Coast Path are in for a feast of festivals, as well as scenery, this summer as they make their way along the country’s spectacular coastline.

Gwyliau sy’n cael eu cynnal o fewn cyrraedd Llwybr Arfordir Cymru'r haf hwn:
Festivals around the Wales Coast Path this summer:
  Pethau i’w gwneud Sir B...
Gallwch fynd i weld gwarchodfeydd natur a mannau encilio crefyddol ar yr ynysoedd, sy’n enwog ar draws y byd. Mae palod ac adar drycin i’w gweld yn aml yn ystod yr haf.
Internationally-famed island wildlife reserves and religious retreats can be discovered here. Puffins and shearwaters are common summer sightings.
  Diwylliant
Yn yr haf, cewch ymlacio a mwynhau penwythnos o gerddoriaeth yn Wakestock yn Llŷn. Gŵyl donfyrddio yw hon ac mae sgiliau rhai o’r tonfyrddwyr yn ddigon i gymryd eich gwynt.
Let your hair down and enjoy a weekend of music at Wakestock on the Llŷn Peninsula. It’s a wakeboarding festival so be ready to watch some superb skills on display.
  Jenny Reed
Yn ystod haf 2014 buom yn taclo’r rhan o Aberteifi i’r Borth, a gwersylla am wythnos a defnyddio bws y Cardi Bach.
In summer 2014 we tackled Cardigan to Borth section, camping for a week using the Cardi Bach bus.
  Jenny Reed
Llwyddais i gerdded yr holl ffordd o amgylch Ynys Môn yr haf hwn, a drwy wneud hynny, cwblhau’r 870 milltir.
I managed to walk round the Isle of Anglesey this summer, thus completing the 870 miles.
  Gwledd o Wyliau
Mae’r dŵr ei hun yn chwarae rhan allweddol hefyd o ran y pethau i’w gwneud dros yr haf, gyda chystadlaethau tonfyrddio, rasio cwryglau ar yr Afon Teifi a chystadlaethau hwylio eithafol.
The water itself plays a key role in things to do over the summer too, with, among other things on offer, a wakeboard competition, coracles racing in the River Teifi and extreme sailing competitions.
  Thomas Leber
Dyddiad Darfod:  11 Hydref 2013 (gyda dim ond 6 diwrnod glawog. Dywedodd y bobl leol wrthyf mai haf 2013 fu’r gorau ers blynyddoedd, yn ôl pob tebyg!
End Date: 11 October 2013 (with only 6 rainy days. Apparently the locals told me that 2013 was the best summer in years!)
  Pethau i’w gwneud Sir B...
Mae’r golygfeydd ardderchog a’r llond gwlad o flodau gwyllt sy’n tyfu yno drwy gydol y gwanwyn a’r haf yn gwneud hwn yn safle delfrydol i’w archwilio.
Stunning views and a profusion of wildflowers through spring and summer make this an idyllic spot to explore.
