Jednotlivé konkrétní iniciativy Evropské komise by tak měly vést mimo jiné i k revitalizaci železnic, zlepšování kvality silniční dopravy (včetně pracovních podmínek řidičů), podpoře vnitrozemské vodní a námořní dopravy, snižování negativních dopadů letecké dopravy na životní prostředí, rozvoji transevropské dopravní sítě, zvýšení bezpečnosti jednotlivých druhů dopravy (například snížení počtu dopravních nehod v silniční dopravě do roku 2010 o polovinu), k ochraně práv cestujících a realizaci projektu satelitní navigace Galileo.

The European Commission’s specific initiatives should result, inter alia, in the revitalisation of the railways; improvements in road transport quality (including drivers’ working conditions); support for inland water transport and marine transport; reductions in the negative environmental impacts of air transport; development of a trans-European transport network; an increase in the safety of individual modes of transport (e.g. a 50% reduction in the number of road accidents by 2010); protection of passenger rights; and the implementation of the Galileo satellite navigation project.

Les différentes initiatives concrètes de la Commission européenne devraient ainsi mener, entre autres, à la revitalisation du transport ferroviaire, à l’amélioration de la qualité du transport routier (y compris des conditions de travail des chauffeurs), au soutien du transport fluvial et maritime, à la réduction des impacts négatifs du transport aérien sur l’environnement, au développement du réseau de transport transeuropéen, à l’amélioration de la sécurité des différents moyens de transport (par exemple la réduction de moitié du nombre des accidents de la route d’ici à 2010), à la protection des droits des voyageurs et à l’aboutissement du projet de système de navigation par satellite Galileo.
