À la fin du IIe siècle, le théâtre est agrandi pour atteindre une capacité de 4000 places. Plus tard, au IVe siècle, Ragonio Vincenzio Celsio fait modifier le couloir central d’accès en y plaçant une statue de Rome, qu’aujourd’hui on peut voir derrière le Nymphée à l’est, et des socles de statues qui se trouvaient dans le Piazzale delle Corporazioni désormais abandonné.

The piazzale and theatre formed a grandiose complex, inside of which there were the offices of the most prestigious merchants and market traders in the city. The building was restored many times through the centuries, but notwithstanding the structural changes undergone, it conserves its full original charm from times gone by.

In seiner Glanzperiode bildete das Theater von Ostia Antica zusammen mit dem dahinterliegenden Piazzale delle Corporazioni einen großartigen Gebäudekomplex, in dem die Büroräume der wichtigsten Händler und Geschäftsleute der Stadt untergekommen waren.

A finales del siglo II el teatro fue ampliado y llegó a albergar hasta 4.000 espectadores. Más adelante, en el siglo IV, Ragonio Vincenzio Celso hizo modificar el pasillo central de la entrada del teatro, colocó una estatua de Roma – que aún puede admirarse detrás del Ninfeo este – y retiró algunos basamentos de estatuas que estaban abandonadas en la Plaza de las Corporaciones. Junto a la mencionada Plaza de las Corporaciones, el teatro de Ostia Antica formaba un grandioso conjunto arquitectónico, en cuyo interior se ubicaron los despachos de los comerciantes y mercaderes más importantes de la ciudad.
