Soviet propaganda broadcasts on the radio had threatened that Oulu would be bombed into a turnip bed. We the children had been taken to a relative's house at Utajärvi after the first night of bombing. The Swedish school in Oulu and plenty of other targets burned down that night. The enemy squadrons flew over Utajärvi. The sky was flaming as Oulu was burning. After the third night of bombing, my mother came. She had with her a telegram from Sweden addressed to me and my brother. It said "Come back as soon as you can! Lagerlöf and Leijonhufvud". The town was still in fire, when the train departed northwards towards Haparanda.
