Karsu is a young Turkish musician born in Holland. Her documentary is being filmed; she performs at concerts on the best stages all around the world and her album remains in the top lists of Netherlands for a long time. We welcomed her at the 16th International Ankara Jazz Festival for the first time, after the huge interest and her new project; she is meeting with the fans on the festival scene. We would like to thank Turmaks for their contribution in the performance of this concert.

The splendid gift of Portugal to the world of jazz, talented songwriter and jazz musician Luisa Sobral is in Ankara for the first time to show us 'love at first listening'. The live performances of Sobral full of her soft voice; peaceful, romantic and authentic style and positive energy evoke admiration all around the world. We are happy to host the 26 year-old young musician, praised as Billie Holiday of Portugal, in the 17th International Ankara Jazz Festival. We appreciate the support of Turmaks.

Sibel Köse is certainly one of the best vocal jazz masters of Turkey. The pride of Ankara, 'sine qua non' of the festival is sharing the stage with guitarist, composer and jazz trainer Dave Allen. Dave Allen's 'Fantastic technique, a strong melodic sense, great compositions' in New York Times' words, meet the vocal of Sibel Köse. Outstanding jazz musicians of Turkey accompany this duo at this concert. We appreciate the support of Armada for this free open air concert.

Ilhan Ersahin is a Swedish–Turkish musician and bar owner, raised in Stockholm and based in New York City since 1990. As a musician, Ersahin has performed and recorded with various musicians as well as his own projects/bands. I started Istanbul Sessions in 2008 in Istanbul, Turkey. I have been very connected with the music scene in Istanbul since awhile. He always went to play in Istanbul with musicians from New York City . Then after meeting musicians from there and jamming with many of them it just became apparent to me that i needed to form another project based out of Istanbul. The sound and feeling we went for from the beginning was more almost like a rock/dance feel. We wanted to take instrumental music to a stand up dancing audience basically, without doing that through electronics but with just real playing. We appreciate support of BİS by NewCastle.

LONGA NOVA, one of Kamil Erdem's compositions as well as the title and opening piece of Asiaminor's second album released in 1996, is now the name of his new group. Over the years, this composition has been arranged for and performed by many different bands, ranging from quartets to big bands. It's rich harmonies and the Turkish flavor of it's melody is appreciated by both jazz and traditional musicians alike and being typical of Erdem's compositions, reflects his musical identity. Now, 20 years after its birth as a composition and an album, LONGA NOVA is on its way as a group playing 20 years of tradition with today's trends.

"Legend alive" İlham Gencer will accompany Turkish Air Forces JAzz Orchestra on the opening night of the festival. He was born in İstanbul in 1925. He started dealing with music when he was little at the public houses in İstanbul. He met piano at the age of 5. He started playing with conductor Gregor with a jazz band of 8 instruments as the first jazz band of Turkey in 1944. He also played with İstanbul Military School Orchestra in 1947 as a high school student. He married Ayten Alpman in 1953. After 1960, he poened a jazz club called "Çatı" which had been frequented by t he famous people of İstanbul nightlife. He launched famous musicians in his club. He played at İstanbul State Radio with Turkish and foreign musicians for years. He presided the "Turkey Musicians' Syndicate" which he had founded. He got married for the second time in 1964 and Bora Gencer who is also a singer himself. His song "İstanbul" was awarded in"topkapı Music Contest" in 1965. He was awarded a lot of times and attended to many music events. He founded an association for protecting İstanbul and had presided it for many years. He made his jubilee of 50 musical years in 1997.
