  Diplomaatia: Must tee
Bhahar’s $4,000 arrived. “I was so happy,” he smiled. He could now go to Europe. Traffickers came before dawn and drove him and other boys, southwest to Izmir, on the Aegean Sea, with high rises, winding streets, outdoor cafes, tourists, and NATO ships. Greek islands beckoned across the blue water. They stayed in a house for a few days and then smugglers drove them in vans to a forest where about 70 boys were waiting. The men took them at night to a rocky cove where the boys boarded a small, rusting boat. The pilot was drunk. The boys sat on deck and they left, and wind came up and waves lashed the side and the engine stopped. “Now we die,” we cried, said Bhahar. But the waves sent the boat back and it crashed into shore.

Sargsjan võitis küll väiksema potiga, kui ennustati (pakuti näiteks OSCE vaatlejate poolt koguni 74% võitu, ent päädis asi pisut alla 60%-ga), ent asja olemus sellest ei muutu. Need valimised möödusid talveunes. Vast ainukene tähelepanuväärne ekstsess oli kuul presidendikandidaadi (ja kunagise nõukogudeaegse dissidendi) Paruir Hairikjani õlas.
Although Sargsyan won the pot with fewer votes than predicted (for example, even OSCE observers expected a 74% victory, but in the end he managed to score slightly less than 60%), this doesn’t alter the gist of things. These elections glided by in a state of hibernation. Maybe the only incident worth mentioning was a bullet hole in the shoulder of the presidential candidate (and former Soviet dissident) Paryir Hayrikyan.

Veebruaris sõlmis Rosneft naftat vastutasuks pakkudes 25 miljardi dollarilise laenutehingu CNPCga, mis tõenäoliselt aitas kaasa sellele, et järgmisel kuul viis ettevõte lõpuni TNK-BP ülevõtmise ja lõi ExxonMobililt üle maailma suurima börsil noteeritud naftaettevõtte tiitli.
First, Gazprom must accomplish the major task of bringing its Eastern Gas Program online by the 2018 timeframe, the proposed start date of Russian gas deliveries to CNPC. Unless Gazprom receives a major source of outside funding, however, it is doubtful that the company will be able to accomplish this goal. Gazprom is already faced with lagging investor confidence, due to an anticipated decline in production from the company’s existing and planned fields through 2020, as well as doubts over the company’s ability to finance major pipeline projects, like the $24 to $30 billion South Stream and a proposed expansion of the company’s $20 billion Nord Stream, currently operating at below capacity. The enormous additional capital investment requirements associated with the Eastern Gas Program, ranging from $45 to $80 billion, cast doubt over Gazprom’s ability to finance all of these projects.
