I want to touch upon two items before we go to the motions. As those of you who were on the trip know, at the end of the trip, on the bus, I read out the main topics emerging in this study we're doing on science and technology. The research document has been put together by Eleanor and will be e-mailed later today. I'd like members to review the list. This is something we'll constantly review as we go through the study. If there are any more topics or any questions, please ask Eleanor. I think it's an excellent way to keep the main topics at the top of our minds.

Another aspect is that DHS will retain this information for as long as seven days after the journey has been completed, even for individuals who have raised no issues and do not match the list; for seven years for potential matches; and for 99 years for confirmed matches. A redress mechanism exists to resolve false positives, but it will take 50 to 60 days on average, thus, in effect, cancelling people's travel plans.

En effet, les différentes étapes sont quand même requises: les réservations, l'enregistrement des bagages, l'émission des billets, l'utilisation d'une porte d'embarquement pour le départ et l'arrivée et, le plus souvent, la récupération des valises à la fin du voyage.

There is a basic reason for that. It costs a regional airline more to provide a seat to our customers than an airline that provides long-haul or international flights. The primary reason is that our fixed costs must be spread over fewer customers. As an example, we have the same fixed costs as an airline flying larger aircraft and the same costs whether the flight is 100 kilometres or 10,000 kilometres. You still have to make a reservation, check you bag, get your ticket, use the gate on departure and arrival, and get your bag, most of the time, at the end of your flight.
