From Taufers i. M., trail no. 10 leads from the Puntweil group of farmsteads on a steep uphill climb (almost 1,000m in altitude to the Rifairalm meadow at 2,146m). First, climb steadily through dense coniferous forest up to the Ochsenboden; then at a height of 1,900m, cross the glorious Wassertal valleys dotted with streams and shrubs. Still on a slight incline, the outstandingly well marked track leads to the lonely Rifairalm meadow, which comes into view immediately above the timber line (no accommodation offered). From here, continue on trail no. 10 across mountain pastures and past boulders to reach the Rifairscharte gap (Furkel pass) at the Plaschweller Kamm ridge at 2,455m. Close to the ridge, there should now be a signpost (at the time of the surveys, this signpost was damaged). For orientation purposes: simply pass the gap and at the turn-off follow the trail to the left (no. 14) on a descent of 500m in altitude directly into the Gutfalltal valley. At the mentioned fork in the road, hikers will enjoy the until now blocked view over the high mountains of the Ortler group, which are crowned by the glittering kingdom of the King Ortler peak with the Trafoier Eiswand and the Tschenglser Hochwand mountains and by the Suldenferner glacier and the Cevedale group. Pass the Dorferalm and Bergeralm meadows and cross the Gutfallbach stream, following the markings for trail no. 13 for a while along the pleasant pastureland path. Head along the gentle basin-shaped valleys and ridges of the idyllic Almtal valley to reach the Schartalpe (1,833m) through larch woodland on a slight descent. From there, the hike first leads steeply down on mountain trail no. 11, and then on a more level course along the farmland trail no. 1 to the village of Stilfs. The mountain slopes above the village lean against the foothills of the Stilfser Alp on the eastern flank of the Fallaschkamm ridge. On reaching the highest settlelments (Faslar), there are several (easy) ways of making the last descent of 200m in altitude down to the little village of Stilfs (1,306m), situated in the high setting of a rather narrow terrace above the Suldenbach riverbed.

Die Täler sind von waldreichen Hängen begleitet, über denen sich nur karge Hochalmen ausdehnen. Der Talboden der genannten Täler ist oft sehr schmal und gewährt nur begrenzt den Bewohnern eine landwirtschaftliche Nutzung. Auch ist ihnen gemein, dass sie durch die Vergletscherung der Hochgipfel sehr wasserreich sind (was vor Jahrzehnten die Elektrizitätswirtschaft auf den Plan gerufen hat). Der Nationalpark Stilfserjoch liegt im Herzen der Alpen und umfasst das gesamte Gebirgsmassiv Ortler-Cevedale. Als alpiner Nationalpark umfasst er alle typischen Formenelemente und Lebensräume, vom vergletscherten Hochgebirge auf rund 3900 m bis hinab zu den Talböden auf 650 m. Er grenzt an den Schweizer Nationalpark und ist durch eine Vielfalt an Alpentieren und -pflanzen charakterisiert. Der Nationalpark Stilfserjoch bildet eines der größten Schutzgebiete der Alpen. Von den lokalen Organisationen wurde ein dichtes Netz markierter Spazier- und Wanderwege, aber auch anstrengender Gebirgssteige, mit Infotafeln zur Geschichte der Bergregion Nationalpark Stilfser Joch eingerichtet; als Beispiele lassen sich Almweg, Höfeweg oder Archaikweg anführen. Diese Themenwege sind oft einfache, eher schmale Wanderpfade in leicht abschüssigem, jedoch meist bewaldetem Gelände. Vorsicht ist bei regnerischen Wetter wegen leichter Steinschlaggefahr in einigen Abschnitten geboten. Tief eingeschnittene Hochtäler münden in den Vinschgau. Einige dieser Täler sind ihrer Schönheit und Großartigkeit wegen berühmt, wie das Münster-, Trafoier- und Suldental. Der hier vorgeschlagene Streckenabschnitt der Via Alpina überquert die zwischen dem Münstertal und Trafoi aufragenden Ausläufer des Fallatschkammes, welcher zu den Münstertaler Alpen gehört. In Stilfs vermitteln die aneinander gebauten Häuser, die dem Hang trotzen, eine eigenartige, dörfliche Geborgenheit. Und dass hier oben „selbst die Hennen Steigeisen tragen“ sollten, stammt aus einheimischen Munde. Die Siedlung ist wegen der von hier aus möglichen Fernsicht ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Piazza Walther is the largest and most important Piazza in the town. It is also often called the “front room” of the city. The Piazza underwent several name changes: It was built in 1808 by order of King Maximilian of Bavaria and bore his name. Later, it was named “Johannesplatz” after the Archduke Johann of Austria. In 1901 the Piazza was dedicated to the most important medieval poet and renowned minstrel, Walther von der Vogelweide. When South Tyrol became part of Italy the Piazza was named after the Italian king Viktor Emanuel III. After WW II the name of the Piazza reverted to Walther von der Vogelweide. In the centre of the Piazza resides “Walther”, as the inhabitants of Bolzano lovingly call the monument. It is made from Lasa marble and was created by sculptor Heinrich Natter from Val Venosta in 1889 in Neo-Romanesque style.
