The Global Partnership for Education is comprised of close to 60 developing countries, donor governments, international organizations, the private sector, teachers, and civil society/NGO groups. Based on UNESCO data the GPE developing partner countries have delivered better education results than countries not benefitting from GPE support. Since its inception in 2002, GPE has helped its developing country partners increase the percentage of children completing primary school from 56 to 71 percent, reduce the percentage of out-of-school primary school-aged children from 34 to 18 percent, and increase literacy rates particularly for young women, while allocating more than US$3.1 billion in grants to its developing country partners. Government expenditures in GPE countries allocated to education increased from 15.8% in 2000 to 18.2% in 2011.
