Since joining the federal public service in 1989, Dr. Pierre Charest has held several senior level management positions within the Canadian Forest Service and Natural Resources Canada. More recently, within the Health Products and Food Branch, Dr. Charest was the Director General of the Office of Biotechnology and Science, and the Acting Director General of the Biologics and Genetic Therapies Directorate. Dr. Charest has contributed to major Health Canada priorities on the Therapeutic Access Strategy, Drug Safety, and Cells, Tissues and Organs. A prolific author and researcher, Dr. Charest has written or co-written 75 scientific publications, written or directed 20 internal reports for Health Canada and the Canadian Forest Service on biotechnology and on the management of science and technology, presented 80 scientific communications and delivered 30 invited lectures. He holds a Doctorate Degree in Molecular Biology from Carleton University, and Masters and Bachelor Degrees in Agronomy from Laval University.
