Montreal 2014
  Communiqué de Louise Be...
For 24 years in Montréal, and the last 3 in Québec City, the famous Parents and Kids Fair has been enjoying unparalleled success thanks to the professionalism and vision of its founding president, Louise Benoit. Widely regarded as “the” famfest for expectant mothers and new parents, the Parents and Kids Fair is the largest consumer fair for families in the country. Future moms and parents of children ages 0 to 6 will be happy to learn that the popularity of the family-focused event just keeps growing. Marie-Élaine Thibert is delighted to be back as the godmother of this beautiful fair, where the finest early childhood resources and products merrily come together. “My baby girl Marie-Félix is growing up so fast, and her needs keep changing. So I can’t wait to be at the Fair, both in Montréal and Québec City! If you’re a parent or about to become one, you’ll love finding everything under one roof,” says Thibert, who is a loving mom and an outstanding godmother! Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc., the Fair’s loyal partner for the last 24 years, will be presenting the event in both Montréal and Québec City.

Montréal, November 23, 2016 – The Montréal edition of the Parents and Kids Fair will be turning 25 in April – and what a milestone it is going to be! Born out of an idea that presented itself at a sunny Outremont outdoor café, the Parents and Kids Fair is still pursuing its mission of supporting families with the same spark and fire of 25 years ago. It took two years for the Fair’s founder, Louise Benoit, to develop the concept, give it a brand and assemble the team, sponsors and exhibitors that would make up the Fair’s inaugural edition. The date was April 22, 1993. Number of exhibitors: ...70! Times have changed, and since that opening day, the Fair has hosted over one million visitors at Place Bonaventure, the number of exhibitors has been running in the hundreds each year, and thanks to its founder’s unwavering standards and professionalism, the event has consistently scored a 94% visitor satisfaction rate – it even received the Pope’s blessing!

Expected to attract nearly five times the number of exhibitors it drew when it first started in 1993, the 24th edition of the Parents and Kids Fair will run in Montréal on April 7-8-9-10, 2016, at Place Bonaventure. The 3rd instalment of the Québec City edition of the Fair will take place April 29-30 and May 1, 2016, at ExpoCité. This type of success could only be attained through, among other things, the tenacious energy and enthusiasm of the Fair’s founding president, Louise Benoit. “Now more than ever, in today’s fast-paced world, parents and expectant parents need guidance, tools and resources to make informed decisions. I remember thinking I could have used an event like this when I was pregnant with my daughter, Marie-Soleil! And it’s precisely the lack of help and resources at the time that prompted me to start a parenting fair for families with kids ages 0 to 6. We’ve come a long way over these last 24 years, and I am so happy we’ve recently been able to bring the Fair to Québec City as well. Being from Lévis, this feels very much like a homecoming,” remarks an emotional Benoit.

Communicating comes naturally to Louise Benoit. Formerly the secretary of René Homier-Roy at the reputable Nous magazine in the 1970s, Louise has always been open to new challenges. A veteran of the event and exhibition planning business, she simply thrives on it. After working on some of Montréal’s marquee consumer and trade shows, the idea of creating the Parents and Kids Fair came to her as she sat in an outdoor terrace one sunny day. Louise remembers being struck by the number of mothers and strollers passing by and realizing there were no events aimed at helping new and expectant parents. This coincided with the growing number of pregnant women she would meet everywhere she went, a product of the demographic trend labelled as the Baby Boom Echo, which was still alive and kicking in Québec in 1991. Recalling the lack of resources available to mothers back when she had her daughter, Marie-Soleil, at age 21, she resolved to do something about it. After two years of planning, the Parents and Kids Fair launched in the spring of 1993. It was an instant hit.

In 1994, Louise Benoit asked the scouts from the Greater Montréal chapter of the organization to escort moms with strollers, grandparents needing assistance and even expectant moms up the stairs leading to the exhibition hall of Place Bonaventure. It was a simple idea, but one that amply reflected Benoit’s knack for business, people and kids. That same year, she was made an honourary member of the Scouts du Montréal Métropolitain. For Benoit, leading a successful, rewarding life is intrinsically tied with helping people, another quality she inherited from her father, who enjoyed the final years of his life as a monk at the Saint-Benoit abbey, after helping Cardinal Léger raise funds for Fame pereo, one of the Cardinal’s first charitable endeavours. The Parents and Kids Fair continues to be free for children ages 12 and under. That in itself speaks volumes! Still driven by the desire to see children grow in the best possible developmental conditions, Louise Benoit invites you to come enjoy the 24th Parents and Kids Fair in Montréal, and the 3rd Parents and Kids Fair in Québec City, and see why parenting is a love and learn experience!

« Tant à Montréal qu’à Québec, Le Salon Maternité Paternité Enfants démontre avec éloquence l’importance de cet événement incontournable pour les jeunes familles. Nous sommes ravis d’être associés à ces rendez-vous annuels depuis les tout débuts. » rappelle François J. Coutu, Président et Chef de la direction Le Groupe Jean Coutu (PJC) inc.
, to founding an event staffing agency, Louise Benoit has been a fighter throughout her career. Nevertheless, who knew that at age 40, she would create what would become Canada’s biggest consumer fair for families? Twenty-five years later, this accomplished woman, now also a grandmother, can look back with pride at the impact she’s had on the early childhood community and an entire generation of young families – an inspiration for all of Québec! “In both Montréal and Québec City, the Parents and Kids Fair has become an essential component of young families’ lives. We are delighted to have been a part of this annual tradition from the beginning,” declared François J. Coutu, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc., official presenter of both Fairs.
