Molekularno je potpuno jednak Aestivumu, no voli sjenovita mjesta pa se samo zbog utjecaja okoline razlikuje u okusu, mirisu i morfologiji spora. Unicantum se vezuje uz korijenje hrasta, bukve, lijeske, topole, bora i lipe, a vrijeme zrenja mu je između rujna i siječnja.
Tuber Unicantum is the most widespread edible truffle in Europe. Molecularly it is equal to Aestivum but it prefers shady places and it thus differs in flavour, scent and spore morphology.  solely due to the influence of the environment. Unicantum connects with roots of oak, beech, hazel, poplar, pine and linden trees and the ripening time is between September and January.

Dok jedne oduševljavaju gotovo mitski pejzaži s uzvišenim i zidinama omeđenim srednjovjekovnim gradićima, drugi su osupnuti netaknutom prirodom, prekrasnim vidicima i bezbrojnim tonovima zelene.
Central Istria, a small region where everything is so close and yet sufficiently distant, is enchanting with its attractive combination of diversity and authenticity. While some people are thrilled about the almost mythical landscapes with the high positioned medieval small towns surrounded with walls, other are astonished with the untouched nature, magnificent views and numerous green tones. Other are attracted by the many festivals and festivities celebrating life and creativity. However, almost all are equally enthusiastic about Istrian autochthonous specialties.

Koža (peridium) mu je glatka i oker žuta ili maslinasto žute boje, a ponekad može pokazivati rustičnije smeđe napuknuto područje ili svijetlocrvene mrlje. Gleba (mesnata unutrašnja masa) je čvrste i sapunaste strukture, u početku bjelkasta a potom blijedožuta, oker smeđa, crvenkasto smeđa, prošarana s mnogim tankim bijelim linijama.
The fruit is usually spherically anomalously shaped and it most often grows to the size from 2 to 15 cm. Its skin (peridium) is smooth and ochre yellow or olive yellow in colour, and sometimes it can reveal a more rustic cracked area or light red spots. The gleba (fleshy inner mass) is firm and soapy in structure, at the beginning whitish and then pale yellow, ochre brown, reddish brown, streaked with many thin white lines. Intensive in scent and strong but pleasant in flavour.

Oblik i boja kože Tuber Aestivuma slična je Melanosporumovoj, no boja mesa je bijela i ne mijenja se: gleba (mesnata unutrašnja masa gljive koja sadrži spore) je bjelkasta, čvrsta i tvrda te postaje konačno žućkasta, crvenkasto-smeđa i maslinasto-smeđa.
The shape and colour of Tuber Aestivum skin is similar to the skin of Melanosporum but the colour of meat is white and it does not change: the gleba (fleshy spore-bearing inner mass of fungi) is whitish, firm and hard and it finally turns yellowish, reddish-brown and olive-brown. The dark brown or black skin (peridium) resembles a rough bark. The body is more or less spherical, sometimes anomalously shaped and resembling a lump. With an average size from 2 to 10 cm, Tuber Aestivum is among the relatively big truffle varieties. Its scent is pale and agreeable but it does not conceal the typical fungi scent. This truffle has a gentler aroma and thus its price is also lower.

Zbog naslaga fliša te velike zastupljenosti gline i njene sive boje, središnja se Istra naziva i Siva Istra. Kako su flišne naslage vodonepropusne, mnoge tekućice stvaraju brojne jaruge niz koje se slijevaju oborinske vode.
Due to the flysch layers and the huge quantities of clay and its grey colour, central Istria is also known as Grey Istria. Since flysch layers are waterproof, the many streams have created numerous ravines through which rainfalls are descending. An important part of that region of Istria are the valleys of rivers Mirna and Raša with their tributaries, and their form is conditioned by the composition of rocks – in areas where softer flysch layers are predominant, rivers have a wide tributaries network while in areas with harder rocks rivers have incised deep and steep canyons. Due to the flourishing fauna, this area, especially the area surrounding Pazin and Buzet, is also known as Green Istria.
