The Economic and Development Review Committee (EDRC) is a review and assessment committee whose task is to evaluate, within an agreed-upon peer review process, the evolution of macroeconomic and sectoral policies of OECD countries. The Committee meets every 18 months. The Economic Reviews of individual member states drawn up by the OECD Economic Department are discussed at EDRC meetings. In addition to a detailed description of the main innovations introduced by the country being reviewed, the OECD presents a set of economic-policy recommendations to overcome any problems noticed over the period considered and also observed during OECD missions. At meetings, the situation of each individual country is considered by the representatives of other member states and each delegation has the opportunity to explain and defend the economic policy adopted by its national government. The publication and subsequent dissemination of the OECD Economic Review reflect the discussion and any changes made during the review by the Committee. As part of this process the Direzione I (First Head Office) coordinates the Italian delegation when the “Economic Review – Italy” is discussed. Moreover, before the actual drawing up of the draft review by the OECD, the Direzione I draws up replies to queries raised by the OECD’s Italy desk, sets up meetings and receives the OECD delegation responsible for drawing up the Review on their visits to Rome. Direzione I sets out Italy’s economic and financial situation at the meetings in Rome providing insight into the structural context of Italy’s economy.
