"BMW "X5" is a SUV with a commanding view on the road from the driver's position.  It's a SUV, so it is meant also for off-road. I didn't have a chance to test it in such conditions but I managed to take it out on the bumpy streets of Jelgava that are at least equal to off-road sections. The driving comfort there was marvelous - I didn't feel any road holes, the car was very smooth and comfortable - it was a pleasure to drive!"

Der BMW "X5" ist ein SUV, aus dem sich der Blick wie aus einer Kommandozentrale auf die Straße eröffnet, und der ist auch noch geländetauglich. Unter solchen Umständen haben wir den"X5" zwar nicht ausprobiert, aber als Äquivalent dazu konnten die Straßenverhältnisse von Jelgava herhalten, wo der „X5“ einfach herrlich war. Ich habe keine Dellen gespürt, auch unter diesen Umständen war die Fahrt stabil und komfortabel – ein echter Fahrspaß!“

Making a luxury saloon that can do more than 180mph is difficult enough. Add in the idea that it should also go off road and you can imagine the scale of the task its engineers thought they’d face. Wolfgang Dürheimer, president of Bentley Motors and CEO of the corporation, gave the green light to the project.

Die Geschäftsführung von Bentley hat schon längst an der Notwendigkeit nach einem solchen Wagen gedacht, jedoch sollten zuerst zwei wesentliche Fragen beantwortet werden: wird es für den ungefähr 200.000 EUR teueren SUV Käufer geben, und ob das Fahrzeug tatsächlich die Geschwindigkeit von 300 km/h erreichen können wird? Eine solche Höchstgeschwindigkeit eines mehr als 2,5 Tonnen schweren Wagens stellt große Herausforderung für die Ingenieure dar. Wolfgang Dürheimer – der Präsident und der Markenleiter von Bentley Motors – hat dem Vorhaben das grüne Licht gegeben, weil er schon positive Erfahrung mit einem anderen Fahrzeug der Unternehmensgruppe mit dem Porsche „Cayenne“ – hatte.

Dakar rally raid is considered as the most prestigious off-road race. From 1979 to 2009 the race was in Africa, but due to safety reasons organizers from 2009 switched the race to South America. This year race distance crossed Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.
