स्वयंभू भगवान नारायण ने जल की सृष्टी की। नारायण से उत्पन्न होने के कारण जल को नार कहा जाने लगा। भगवान ने सर्व प्रथम जल पर विश्राम किया। इसलिए भगवान को नारायण कहा जाता है। भगवान ने जल में अपनी शक्ति छोड़ी उससे एक सुवर्णमय अण्ड प्रकट हुआ। उसी में स्वयंभू ब्रह्मा जी की उत्पत्ति हुई ऐसा सुना जाता है। एक वर्ष तक अण्डे में निवास करके श्री ब्रह्मा जी ने उसके दो टुकड़े कर दिए। एक से धूलोक बन गया और दूसरे से भूलोक।
