Then, German soldiers were installed in our houses, my parents had to accept one, a young officer from Munich (Munchen) who spoke perfect French and was remarkably polite. I remember that when he moved to another house he bid us farewell, saying that if we happened to meet him in the street, he would pretend not to know us and we would have to do the same if we did not want to seem compromised with him, especially for me, my husband being away because of the war.

Les allemands s'installent chez l'habitant, mes parents ont du en accepter un, c'etait un jeune officier muniquois parlant le francais comme nous... d'une politesse remarquable. Je me rappelle qu'avant de demenager dans une autre maison, il nous a dit adieu en nous prevenant que si nous devions le croiser dans la rue, il ferait semblant de ne pas nous connaitre et nous devrions faire de meme si nous ne voulions pas sembler s'etre compromis avec lui, en particulier en ce qui me concerne, mon mari etant parti a la guerre.
