Nous nous sommes alors servis de plusieurs des détails de cet ancien foyer pour en ériger un neuf, complet avec l'âtre et la crémaillère que voici. La crémaillère du foyer de la maison de 1790 existait toujours et nous avons pu en relever les détails et en fabriquer une neuve pour le foyer de la Maison Doucet.

So over the years during my research on a variety of historic buildings, I came across a house that had been built in 1790, in Eastern PEI, and the fireplace was still there. The whole house had fallen down around it but the fireplace was there and I could see how the fireplace had been constructed 200 years earlier. So we used a lot of those details in building this new fireplace - complete with hearth, and crane - this is the fireplace crane. The fireplace crane still existed for that 1790 house and we were able to get some basic details from that, which we used in creating the new crane for the fireplace.

Pour ce qui est de la restauration du foyer, nous savions qu'il y avait un foyer central dans la maison puisque nous avions pu en apercevoir la fondation au sous-sol quand nous sommes allés y faire notre première analyse.

Ok, in the restoration, we had to - we knew there was a central fireplace and chimney in the house ,ahh, because we could see the foundation in the basement when we did the first analysis of the building. So we had to rebuild the fireplace. We had no,umm, information at all about what that would look like. Most of the Acadian homes at the Caraquet Village were - the fireplaces were at the end of the house but ours was in the middle.
