Aujourd’hui, Yves mène principalement des recherches centrées sur le trésor que constituent les innombrables spécimens qui constituent les collections rassemblées par lui-même ; il est intarissable en ce qui concerne ses concombres de mer « chéris ». « Certaines espèces souffrent d’une pêche excessive, pour être vendues en masse sur les marchés asiatiques où ces animaux sont considérés comme des délicatesses ou comme des aphrodisiaques. Récemment, nous avons pu – en partie grâce à nos riches collections – décrire ces espèces commerciales et cartographier leur distribution ; ces informations ont été publiées dans un ouvrage édité par la FAO (Organisation des Nations unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture). Nous espérons ainsi que les pêcheries et les autorités pourront à présent mieux reconnaître ces espèces et surveiller le commerce.

Today, Yves mainly conducts research on the specimens in “his” collections, and he can never get enough of his beloved sea cucumbers. “Some species are overfished, because in Asia they are sold in huge numbers as delicacies or aphrodisiacs. Using our rich collection, we have recently provided concise descriptions of these species and mapped their ranges in a book published by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). We hope that fisheries and the public sector will now be better able to recognise these species and to manage catches more sustainably.”
