The story "Tilly's Christmas" by Louisa May Allcott was staged at Azerbaijan University. The students studying at Translation specialty of Humanities Faculty performed the play in English. The students got prepared for the performance dedicated to the 31st of December - the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis and New Year with the guidance of the head of the Foreign Languages Department Samira Mammadova and the teacher Fazila Zakirova.

The staff of the Azerbaijan University has held a holiday festival for the 31st of December – the Day of Solidarity of the World Azerbaijanis and the New Year. The university management, administrative staff and teachers also took part in the event organized in “Excelsior Hotel&Spa Baku”. A video clip covering the activity of the university for 2017 was demonstrated in the event. It was noted that, the innovations and reforms implemented encourage us to focus on new successes.

The event was opened by the rector of the university, Saadat Aliyeva. The rector noted that the those what happened in Khojaly on February 25-26, 1992, were the most terrible tragedy of the last century and the act of savagery. The Azerbaijani state takes all necessary steps to recognize the tragedy as a genocide act against our people, to restore justice and to prosecute those who commited genocide in the international court. To convey this crime to the world community is a civil duty of every Azerbaijani.

Saadat Aliyeva noted that the facts about the 1918 genocide have been falsified and hidden from the world community. Following the re-establishment of independence, after the decree signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the March genocide, an opportunity was created to create an objective view of the era, the facts and truths distorted for many years were discovered and got its real value. The decree of President Ilham Aliyev on the 100th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis is another important step aimed at preventing the falsification of historical facts by our neighbors.

In her opening speech, the rector of the university Saadat Aliyeva emphasized that the world azerbaijanis commemorate this day respectfully and remembrance ceremonies are held in every part of the world in honor of our national leader. Heydar Aliyev gained the respect of the Azerbaijani nation with his wisdom and courage and left a mark as a notable figure who achieved a phenomenal success in the history of our country. During disturbances and tough period, our nation always believed in Heydar Aliyev’s determination to make the right decision to support the interests of our state and that is what namely the national leader took inspiration from. His life and activity have always guided us and his speeches and desires and the statehood school he founded still keep its effectiveness. The political course of the national leader which was a key factor in strengthening of the international positions of our country and its economic development is now successfully continued by our president Ilham Aliyev.
