On board of an exquisite vintage 1937 BMW 328, we drive almost 800 kilometres on scenic country roads in three days and 6 legs. Dabei steht nicht nur die Funktionalität der Bauteile im Vordergrund, sondern größtes Hauptaugenmerk wird in erster Linie auf die Werkstoffe gelegt, die eine lange Lebensdauer gewährleisten sollen und während dieser Zeit keine Beeinträchtigung der Funktionalität erfahren dürfen. Nur durch intensive Tests ist es möglich, dass z.B. täglich tausende Starts und Landungen von Flugzeugen weltweit durchgeführt und somit Passagiere und Waren sicher ans Ziel gebracht werden.

Already our ancestors recognised that not every stone can be used for arrowheads, knife blades, or other practicable things. One can say materials testing is present everywhere. Even without noticing it, plenty of commodities of everyday use are being more or less intensively tested. Before a product comes to the market many tests have to be carried out. The main focus is not placed on the functionality but rather the material itself. Especially a long lifetime of the product is required, during which the functionality of all components has to be guaranteed. Only because of these intensive tests it is possible that e. g. every day thousands of airplanes take off and land safely all over the world, bringing passengers and goods to their destination.
