There is no financial limit set for inventorying assets. All office assets and small equipment with an apparent value are inventoried. This includes calculators, cameras, binoculars, and other similar items, as well as office furniture and computers. The items are labelled with a Parks Canada identifying number. The data is recorded in a Microsoft Access database and maintained by the procurement officer (PG-02). Consumables such as paper, pencils, pens, and paperclips are not inventoried. The inventory is reviewed annually, and according to interviews with a number of staff, the inventory is up-to-date. A list is provided to managers on an annual basis to account for their assets. In the past, there has been good control on office assets; however, interviews indicated that a number of assets have gone missing in the past year, including expensive items such as binoculars valued at $3,500. The SSL Field Unit is still ascertaining the location of the missing assets. The office inventory is not linked to the SAP financial system and there are no plans to do this in the future.
