Castelchiaro, chiamato in tedesco anche “Leuchtenburg”, è il rudere di un castello che sorge sulla cima del Monte di Mezzo, sopra il Lago di Caldaro. Anche se questa parte non fa parte del comune di Caldaro, ma del comune Vadena, questa rovina è un simbolo importante per il lago ed inoltre fa parte di quasi ogni immagine del lago stesso.

This area is characterised by a large number of castles, ruins and residences that are popular excursion destinations. The Mendola funicular, considered the steepest and longest funicular railway of Europe, takes you to the Passo della Mendola, which is an ideal starting point for hikes, making you experience nature at close range.

Die genaue Datierung der Erbauung der Leuchtenburg ist unsicher. Häufig jedoch wird der Zeitraum zwischen 1200 und 1250 genannt. Das Südtiroler Burgeninstitut geht sogar von einer Entstehung vor 1200 aus. Sicher ist jedoch, dass um 1250 die Herren von Rottenburg, die wahrscheinlich auch die Erbauer sind, auf der Burg saßen.
