Le pendici del colle Cidneo, prima brulle e coperte di pietrame per permettere l’avvistamento dei nemici, appaiono oggi totalmente cambiate: queste dalla fine del XIX secolo sono state completamente riassettate e sono stati creati viali alberati e collocati monumenti e steli; da allora il Castello ha assunto una funzione pubblica di carattere sia ricreativo sia culturale-scientifico.

La parte antigua de la ciudad de Brescia, conocida con el nombre romano de Brixia a partir del I siglo a.C. por el aspecto roqueño y movido del terreno en el cual fue construida, está delimitada en el lado Noreste por la colina llamada “Cidneo”, de 245 metros de alturas. “Brich” era la palabra céltica indicando una cumbre rocosa o un lugar elevado. La colina, por la cual es posible disfrutar de una hermosa vista panorámica de la ciudad, siempre fue el elemento más significativo por la historia urbana de Brescia, a partir de los primeros asentamientos durante la edad del Bronce, hasta los comienzos del siglo XX.

The natural features of the site, starting from the first settlements used for defensive purposes, have, in time, changed their function. The slopes of the Cidneo hill, first bare and covered with rocks to allow for enemy sighting, are totally different today. These slopes starting from the end of XIX century have been completely rearranged and tree-lined roads have been created and monuments and stalks placed; since then, the Castle has had a public role with both a recreational and cultural-scientific function.

Im Grande Miglio befindet sich das Stadtmuseum des Risorgimento, in dem viele wichtige Dokumente, Gemälde, alte Stiche und historische Relikte ausstellt werden. Die beiden bestehenden Ausstellungsbereiche widmen sich den Momenten und den wichtigsten Figuren der Revolutionsjahren des späten achtzehnten bis zu den letzten Jahrzehnten des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts.

By walking up to the top of the hill from the entrance, the visitor goes through a journey back in time: from the military architecture of the 1500’s (beginning of the period of Venetian domination), to those of the 1800’s (period of Austrian occupation) until the more internal Medieval wall, the one built by the Visconti family.

Dans le Grande Miglio a son siège le Musée Civique du Risorgimento, qui expose de nombreux et remarquables documents, des tableaux , des gravures de l’époque et de reliques historiques. Les deux sections du musée sont dédiées aux monuments et aux personnages les plus importants de la période qui va des années révolutionnaires de la fin du XVIIIème siècle aux derniers décennies du XIXème siècle.

Im Mastio der Visconti befindet sich das Stadtmuseum der Waffen "Luigi Marzoli", eines der wichtigsten in Europa für das Reichtum seiner Sammlungen von Waffen und Rüstungen aus dem fünfzehnten und sechszehnten Jahrhundert und den Schießwaffen aus dem siebzehnten und achtzehnten Jahrhundert. Das Material, von großem historischen und künstlerischen Interesse ist in mehrere Sektoren je nach Alter und Typ unterteilt. Die etwa sechshundert Ausgestellten Objekte bieten eine sinnvolle Dokumentation sowohl der Waffe Produktion aus Mailand als auch aus Brescia, die eine jahrhundertealte Tradition rühmt.

Por eso el complejo de la colina-Castillo siempre ha formado parte de la ciudad. Sin embargo, hoy en día ir al Castillo significa no sólo visitar el conjunto de las majestuosas fortificaciones de la “Rocca”, sino también pasear por las vastas zonas de recreo ubicadas en las murallas o bien a lo largo de estrechas calles llevando hacia la cumbre de la colina “Cidneo”.
