JBL hat das traditionelle Aquascaping in drei Gruppen unterteilt, da ein Vergleich dieser sehr unterschiedlichen Richtungen z. B. bei einem Wettbewerb eigentlich nicht möglich ist. Denn wie soll die Jury ein Biotopaquarium bewerten, das den steinhaltigen Tanganjikasee zeigt und in Konkurrenz zu einem schön bepflanzten Plant-Scape steht? JBL ist es erst einmal wichtig, dass JEDER Aquarianer durch die richtigen Produkte in die Lage versetzt wird, stark bepflanzte Aquarien langfristig erfolgreich zu pflegen und so zum ProScaper wird. Wenn Sie diesen ersten Schritt erfolgreich gemeistert haben, folgt die Stilrichtung, mit der Sie sich beschäftigen möchten: Soll es in Richtung Pflanzengärten gehen (Plant-Scape, früher oft holländisches Pflanzenaquarium genannt) oder das Kopieren von Überwasserlandschaften (Aquascaping)? Oder sind Sie ein Anhänger natürlicher Lebensräume? Dann wäre das Biotop-Scaping die perfekte Wahl. Auch hier kann man sicherlich unterscheiden: Das strenge Biotop-Aquarium mit Lebewesen und Dekoelementen, die es wirklich im Originalbiotop gibt, oder die etwas weiter gefasste Variante, bei der auch mal ein Stein oder eine Pflanze verwendet werden darf, die im Original-Lebensrum nicht zu finden ist.

After all, how can a jury assess a biotope aquarium, which shows the stoney Lake Tanganyika next to a beautifully planted plantscape? It is more important for JBL to know that EVERY aquarist can access the right products to enable them to care long-term for densely planted aquariums and thereby become a ProScaper. When they have reached this stage, they can decide upon the Scape variation they would like to specialize in: They can now decide whether to specialize in plant gardens (Plant-Scape, which often used to be known as Dutch planted aquarium), or in the reproduction of overwater landscapes (aquascaping)? Or are you a fan of natural living spaces? In this case biotope scaping would be the perfect choice. Within this last category the following subcategories are possible: the strictly biotope aquarium with animals and decorative elements, which really occur in the original biotope, or the more liberal variation, in which the occasional stone or plant, which does not belong in the original living space, is used.
