, I didn’t think the war would last for long. I thought my people would win over the conflict. But I was wrong. The sectarian war began between different parts of my country's population, it grew every day. In the end, the devastation was everywhere, the smell of death stretched to every corner of my beloved country. I knew then that hatred, evil and revenge would take hold of Syria. And when the bombs fell on our area, people died around us, many of them were friends of mine. My mother and sister were hit by shrapnel but survived with minor injuries.
