As a world market leader for fuel tanks, SAG develops and manufactures not only diesel tanks but also so-called cryogenic tanks which store liquefied natural gas at about -150°C. These double-walled, super-insulated containers allow a comparable range with natural gas than with diesel. To manufacture these products, new processes such as component cleaning, wrapping of multi-layer insulation, evacuation and heating have been qualified to the usual automotive standard for series production.

Als Weltmarktführer für Kraftstofftanks entwickelt und fertigt SAG nicht nur Dieseltanks, sondern auch sogenannte Kryotanks, in denen verflüssigtes Erdgas bei ca. -150°C gespeichert wird. Diese doppelwandigen, superisolierten Behälter erlauben mit Gasbetrieb eine ähnliche Reichweite wie mit Diesel. Für die Fertigung dieser Produkte wurden neue Prozesse wie Bauteilreinigung, Wickeln der Multi-Layer-Isolation, Evakuieren und Ausheizen auf den gewohnten automotiven Standard für die Serienproduktion qualifiziert.

The construction of the Schwarzach factory - today's Alutech GmbH – made it possible in 1973 for SAG to become the world leading manufacturer in the production of aluminum compressed air tanks. In order to meet the growing demand for new products, a welding robot able to increase efficiency was put into operation about 10 years later.

Der Bau der Betriebsstätte Schwarzach, Salzburg – heutige Alutech GmbH – führte 1973 dazu, dass die SAG als weltweit erster Hersteller Aluminium-Druckluftbehälter produzierte. The containers are manufactured according to the 286-2 standard and are produced for all large commercial vehicle manufacturers. The advantage of compressed air tanks made of aluminum is the enormous weight reduction (up to 50%) and the 100% recyclability. In addition, the containers are corrosion-resistant and therefore do not have to be coated.
