Il y a longtemps que le fossé entre la Flandre et la Wallonie n'a plus été aussi profond. En moins de cinq mois, les politiciens sont arrivés à transformer l'équilibre instable et l'appréciation mutuelle réservée de deux groupes de la population en méfiance, en mépris et, dans certains cas, en haine. Il y a quelques années, quand je venais ici, on me demandait souvent d'expliquer le système « à la belge ». Nombre de Palestiniens pensaient y voir un exemple d'entente malgré tout, à coups de compromis, entre deux communautés très différentes. À présent, ça fait même ricaner ici. Et vu d'ici, il ne semble même pas exclu que ces deux parties de la population qui se laissent monter l'une contre l'autre par les paroles des politiciens finissent par recourir à la violence. J'ai des haut-le-cœur en m'imaginant la tête de certains politiciens. Je me dis qu'on devrait les amener ici pendant une semaine, pour qu'ils découvrent les conséquences possibles d'une telle attitude. Une petite semaine le long du mur, aux points de contrôle, au centre d'Hébron, et une brève excursion à Gaza… Bref, une espèce de voyage scolaire.
