What the test will tell us in a reliable way is what kind of breast cancer the patient has and what the 10-year prognosis is, i.e. what probability the patient has of their cancer recurring. With all the data available, the patient may also decide whether or not it is worth undergoing chemotherapy for a specific percentage of benefit. In other cases, the risk of the cancer recurring is so low that chemotherapy is not worthwhile because the benefits do not outweigh the toxicities in the short and long term. Lo que nos dirá el test de una forma fidedigna es qué tipo de cáncer de mama tiene la paciente y cuál es el pronóstico a 10 años, es decir, qué probabilidad tendrá la paciente de que su cáncer regrese. Con todos los datos sobre la mesa, la paciente también podrá decidir si vale la pena o no someterse a quimioterapia por un porcentaje concreto de beneficio. En otros casos, el riesgo de que vuelva el cáncer es tan bajo que no es necesaria la quimioterapia, ya que los beneficios no superan las toxicidades a corto y largo plazo. La información que proporcionan estos tests genómicos es mucho más precisa y exacta que la que tenemos hoy en día. Todo esto se traduce en una mejor calidad de vida.
